The present invention relates to a balanced support device, comprising: a wagon configured to move along a wagon rail, a frame connected to the wagon and extending over a vertical distance from the wagon, a rail connected to the frame and a carriage movably arranged on said rail, at least one protruding arm comprising a support member for supporting amass, wherein the protruding arm is pivotably connected to the carriage, wherein the protruding arm comprises multiple segments which are movable relative to one another in order to allow the support member to move toward and away from the frame, wherein the support member is mounted to the protruding arm via a rotary connection, allowing the support member including a mass to be rotated, and a vertical balance system for exerting an upwards force on the carriage for counteracting a weight of the mass, the arm and the carriage, wherein the vertical balance system is constructed and arranged to control said force in order to balance masses of different weights.

The base station includes an arcuate rail member. A selectively moveable clamp is attached to the arcuate rail member. A support arm extends from the selectively moveable clamp to provide selective attachment to a surgical accessory, such as a retractor arm, an armrest, or an image guidance reference frame. The base station assembly provides a surgical accessory support that may be moved and adjusted by a surgeon at any time during an operation without contaminating a surgical field and without assistance from circulating operating room personnel.

The support system may comprise an assembly of service hubs interconnected by runway segments to partially or completely circumscribe the treatment zone at the ceiling level while leaving the area immediately above the treatment zone open for other services, such as laminar flow air-handling equipment. An extreme load extension arm may be supported on one or more of the hubs; each such arm is capable of supporting even the heaviest types of medical equipment commonly demanded in surgical suites, especially those supported on booms or articulating arms, thereby greatly increasing the potential operating sphere of each such device. Trolleys are supported on the runway for movement between service hubs. Each trolley can support a medical device in a range of positions around the periphery of the zone as needed by the surgical team.

Tilting motions are thereby prevented. The power supply is provided by means of the centered power source typical of room ceilings, in that the power is transmitted by means of the rotatable power transmission system to a power cable (14) routed within the displacing device, fed to the roller carriage (3) by means of said cable, and connected to the light there.
