Method and apparatus for enabling sensors in a dual matrix sensor array

The subject matter disclosed herein describes an optical sensor used in a safety system. The sensor includes two pixel matrices on a single substrate. Each of the pixel matrices are arranged in a row and column format, and pixels from one matrix are interspersed with pixels from the other matrix such that alternating pixels in each row and column belong to separate matrices. Two sets of selection logic allow each matrix to be enabled separately. Additional monitoring logic is included to detect shorted pixels and/or shorted selection lines. In addition, the frames generated by each pixel array may be compared to detect variation in performance between arrays.

Method and device for protecting persons in the vicinity of an HF field-emitting device

A method is provided which protects persons in the vicinity of a high frequency (HF) field-emitting device, in particular a European train control system (ETCS) antenna of a rail vehicle. In order to be able to reliably protect persons from radiation that is detrimental to one's health, the device is held in or switched to an OFF state by an uplink for a limited period of time, the ON/OFF state being optically and/or acoustically signaled.

Camera based apparatus for safeguarding a machine

An apparatus for safeguarding a machine having a machine part performing a working movement, has a light source, a camera unit and a control unit. The light source and camera unit are attached to the machine part so as to concurrently move together with the machine part. The camera unit has an objective body with an optical lens element, an electronic image sensor arranged on a component support, an aperture stop, and a coupling part having a one-piece body by means of which the objective body and the component support are joined in a defined relative position to one another. The one-piece body fixedly rests on the component support thereby holding the aperture stop at a defined position relative to the electronic image sensor without individual adjustment. The control unit is designed to stop the working movement of the machine part depending on a signal produced by the camera unit.

Robot system in which brightness of installation table for robot is changed

A robot system comprises an intrusion detector which detects that a person has entered into a monitoring area established around a robot, an installation table which supports the robot, a light emitting device which brightens a surface of the installation table, and a control device which receives a signal outputted by the intrusion detector and controls the light emitting device. The control device causes the light emitting device to emit light when it is detected that the person has entered into the monitoring area.

DETECTION SYSTEMS FOR POWER TOOLS WITH ACTIVE INJURY MITIGATION TECHNOLOGY

Power tools with conductive couplings used with active injury mitigation technology are disclosed. Conductive couplings are particularly relevant to table saws, hand-held circular saws, track saws, miter saws, and band saws with active injury mitigation technology. Conductive couplings provide a mechanism through which an electrical signal can be coupled or imparted to a blade, and then monitored for changes indicative of human contact with the blade. An exemplary conductive coupling includes a brush that establishes an electrical connection with a moving part of a power tool, and the brush maintains contact with the moving part of the power tool during at least 40 hours of cumulative time when the motor is spinning the arbor and blade without an interruption in the electrical connection sufficient to trigger the reaction system. A conductive coupling may be two-sided compliant. A conductive coupling may connect to a motor shaft to minimize electrical noise.

PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT FOR BAND SAW

Machine vision apparatus tracks a distinctive object in relation to a hazardous location on a work surface of a modified band saw in two, three, or four (3-D+T) dimensions, and calculates whether to send an “immediate shut-down signal” to the band saw. Cameras and an image processor are mounted on the band saw. The signal causes an integrated blade-arresting or stopping mechanism to immediately shift the idler wheel, removing blade tension and disconnecting the blade which is then braked to a complete, safe stop before an approaching blue-gloved hand can touch the blade.

A light grid and a method using a light grid include a transmission unit having a plurality of light transmitters for transmitting light beams and a reception unit having a plurality of light receivers for receiving the light beams of the light transmitters. The transmission unit and the reception unit are spaced apart from one another and are disposed opposite one another. A monitored field is formed by oppositely disposed light transmitters and light receivers for detecting objects. The light transmitters are activated one after the other in cycles and the light receivers are evaluated in these cycles. A programmable evaluation unit is provided for evaluating the received signals of the light receivers of a cycle with reference to predefined beam evaluation criteria and forming an intermediate result therefrom. The evaluation unit evaluates at least one intermediate result of a cycle with reference to at least one predefined sequential criterion.

DEPALLETIZATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Warehouse automation and methods of handling materials can be used to enhance the safety and efficiencies of warehouse operations. For example, automation systems and methods that make depalletization processes safer and more efficient are described. In some examples, the depalletization systems described herein include multiple work cells/stations and a depalletization robot that traverses the work cells/stations on a rail so the robot can autonomously move between the stations.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor network for a work machine

An agricultural work machine, an agricultural work machine control system, and method for an agricultural work machine having RFID tags to determine a fault condition of machine components, devices, parts or systems. The RFID tags are located on, at, or near machine components or systems to sense a temperature of those components or systems. A receiver/transmitter interrogates the RFID tags and receives the sensed temperatures, and component identifiers. A controller receives the temperatures from the receiver/transmitter and compares the received temperatures to a threshold to determine whether a fault condition exists. If so, the controller transmits an alert signal to a user interface to indicate that a fault condition exists with an identified component, part, device, or system.
