A luminaire including a first power supply, a second power supply, a light source, a switching circuit, and a controller. The controller is in communication with the first power supply, the second power supply, and the switching circuit. The controller can control the switching circuit to remove a supply power from the first power supply, such that the second power supply provides power to the controller, in response to determining that the luminaire is operating in a standby mode, and control the switching circuit to provide the supply power to the first power supply, such that the first power supply provides power to the controller, in response to receiving a command to operate the luminaire in a normal operating mode, wherein the first power supply is capable of outputting more power than the second power supply.

Light fixture with integrated backup power supply

A light fixture may include a light fixture housing defining an internal cavity. A light fixture may also include one or more light engines positioned within the internal cavity of the light fixture housing and designed to emit light for illumination. A light fixture may also include an external power driver positioned within the internal cavity of the light fixture housing and designed to receive power from an external power source, and provide power to and control the one or more light engines. A light fixture may also include a backup power supply positioned within the internal cavity of the light fixture housing, and a backup power driver positioned within the internal cavity of the light fixture housing and designed to receive power from the backup power supply, and provide power to and control the one or more light engines.

Emergency wayfinding technology

An emergency wayfinding device including a lighting controller, a lighting circuit, and a light emitting element. The emergency wayfinding device may draw electricity through a twist-lock plug or draw it from a power source such a battery or a photovoltaic cell. The wide-area communications device is in electrical communication with a connected lighting controller and is configured to send and receive signals or messages to and from a central broadcasting device as well as other emergency wayfinding devices. The lighting controller is configured to change a property of light emitted from a light emitting element based upon signals or messages received by a wide-area communications device. The wide-area communications device communicates a received message or signal to the lighting controller and the lighting controller generates a lighting control signal or message. The lighting controller communicates the generated lighting control signal or message to the lighting circuit, and in response, the lighting circuit changes a property of the light emitted from the light emitting element based upon the lighting control signal or message.
