Electrical components are positioned at the proximal end of the tip structure and coupled with the at least one light emitting device and are configured for engaging complementary electrical components positioned in the housing for providing power to the light emitting device. A portion of the tip structure extends beyond the proximal end of the tip structure and is configured to be received by a feature in the housing for physically aligning the tip structure in the housing and for aligning the electrical components. A power supply circuit is rechargeable and includes an ultracapacitor element.

A lighting system can comprise an edgelit panel, for example a lightguide that may have a panel or slab shape with an edge that receives light from an array of light emitting diodes extending along the edge. The lightguide can guide the received light towards an opposing edge of the lightguide and gradually release light to provide illumination. An optic can manage light that reaches the opposing edge of the lightguide, for example via softening, spreading, concentrating, or diffusing the light. The optic can be mounted to or integrated in the opposing edge of the lightguide.

The present invention discloses a method for constructing a universal LED bulb, a flange snap ring type LED bulb and a lamp. A heat conductive bracket (3) with a flange is used as a structure supporting main body of the bulb to establish an optical engine core member of the LED bulb. An inner snap ring (81) fixed to the heat conductive bracket (3) is used to support the optical engine core member in an auxiliary manner. The optical engine core member is composed of the heat conductive bracket (3), an optical engine module (4), the inner snap ring (81), an inner cover (6), an electric connector (11) and a light distribution optical lens (7). The optical engine module (4) is made up of an optical engine die plate, an LED chip and a relevant wiring by bonding and packaging, or is further integrated with a power supply drive chip.

ILLUMINATION APPARATUS

An illumination apparatus which uses laser light emitted by a light source is provided. The illumination apparatus includes a housing which is tubular, internally includes an optical path for the laser light, and includes a first end surface having an opening through which the laser light passing through the optical path is released. A light emitter is opposed to the opening, receives the laser light released through the opening, converts the laser light into light having a different wavelength of a predetermined color, and emits the light. A cap is removably attached to a first end portion of the housing and through which the light emitted by the light emitter is released. A shutter opens the optical path when the cap is attached to the housing and closes the optical path when the cap is detached from the housing.

An illumination device includes a laser source, a conventional diffuser element, and an extender optic with a curved interior surface and a curved exterior surface. Light emitted by the laser source with a given field of illumination (FOI) is received by the conventional diffuser element and outputted towards the interior surface of the extender optic with an increased FOI; the exterior surface of the extender optic then outputs the light received by the interior surface as light with an even greater FOI, usually in the range of 120°-185°.

A precision approach path indicator (PAPI) employs an LED light source with first and second arrays of LEDs or other efficient light sources, disposed one above the other and emitting their respective color lights along an optic axis to a collimating lens of focal length f. First and (optional) second aperture plates positioned along the optic axis, each being a respective frame with a cut-out defining a horizontally elongated aperture for light passing along the optic axis. Intermediate aperture plate(s) can be positioned between the first and second aperture plates. The first frame is positioned between the light source and the collimating lens at the focal distance f from the lens. The optional second aperture plate is positioned at the collimating lens and covers top, bottom, and side edge portions of the lens. A planar blade extends from the light source to the first frame and has a distal edge extending across the aperture of the first aperture plate, substantially at the focus of the collimating lens, dividing the beam into white and red sectors. The intermediate aperture plate(s) can be adjusted for optimal separation. The PAPI can be considered to have an illumination portion formed of the light source(s), blade, and first frame; and an imaging portion formed of an enclosure and a lens positioned at its focal length distant from the front frame aperture and edge of the blade.
