A solid state lighting (SSL) with a solid state emitter (SSE) having thermally conductive projections extending into an air channel, and methods of making and using such SSLs. The thermally conductive projections can be fins, posts, or other structures configured to transfer heat into a fluid medium, such as air. The projections can be electrical contacts between the SSE and a power source. The air channel can be oriented generally vertically such that air in the channel warmed by the SSE flows upward through the channel.

An air conditioner includes a housing including an illumination opening at a position viewable by a user; a blower provided in an airflow path connecting an inlet and outlet; a light emitter provided in the housing viewable through the illumination opening and including a light incident portion to receive light emitted from a first light source and a first light emission portion to emit first light generated from the light and including light simulating natural light; and at least one light extractor emitting second light that is part of the light received by the light emitter that reaches an edge portion of the light emitter without being emitted as the first light or second light received from the first light source or a second light source different from the first light source without intervention of the light emitter. The at least one light extractor is provided in the airflow path.

A wall wash recessed light fixture has a light engine assembly has an aperture, an LED module operable to emit light through the aperture, a lens disposed between the LED module and the aperture, and a reflector disposed between the LED module and the lens. The LED module has an optical axis passing through the aperture and substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis (Z). The lens has a first side forming a plano-convex lens with a convex surface facing the LED module and has a second side with a Fresnel lens surface facing the aperture, and the lens is aligned at an oblique angle Θ.sub.1 relative to the optical axis of the LED module. A diffuser is disposed between the lens and the aperture. The plano-convex lens has a principal axis aligned at the oblique angle Θ.sub.1 relative to the optical axis of the LED module.

A light source device includes: a light source having an upper surface including a light-emitting surface, the light source comprising a plurality of light-emitting parts arranged in a two-dimensional array; a lens located above and spaced apart from the light-emitting surface of the light source, wherein the lens comprises an optically functional part, and a flange part located along an outer periphery of the optically functional part; and a support part formed of a light-shielding material and configured to support at least the flange part of the lens. A surface area of a first surface of the optically functional part is greater than a surface area of a second surface of the optically functional part. The flange part defines at least one first recess in a surface located at a same side as the second surface.

A photoconversion device includes a holder, a wavelength converter, and an optical element. The holder holds an output portion that outputs excitation light. The wavelength converter includes an incident surface section including a protruding surface to receive the excitation light from the output portion and emits fluorescence in response to the excitation light incident on the incident surface section. The optical element includes a focal point surrounded by the incident surface to direct the fluorescence emitted by the wavelength converter in a predetermined direction.

A light emitting device includes a base, a first light emitting element and a first light reflecting member disposed on the base and a lens member. The first light reflecting member is positioned with respect to the first light emitting element so that emitted light from the first light emitting element is divided into a portion of the emitted light from the first light emitting element irradiating onto the light reflecting face and a portion of the emitted light from the first light emitting element traveling outside of the light reflecting face by having an edge of the light reflecting face serve as a boundary. The lens member includes a reflected light passing region having a first lens shape configured to control the travelling direction of reflected light, and a non-reflected light passing region having a second lens shape configured to control a travelling direction of non-reflected light.

A light emitting device includes a base, a first light emitting element and a first light reflecting member disposed on the base and a lens member. The first light reflecting member is positioned with respect to the first light emitting element so that emitted light from the first light emitting element is divided into a portion of the emitted light from the first light emitting element irradiating onto the light reflecting face and a portion of the emitted light from the first light emitting element traveling outside of the light reflecting face by having an edge of the light reflecting face serve as a boundary. The lens member includes a reflected light passing region having a first lens shape configured to control the travelling direction of reflected light, and a non-reflected light passing region having a second lens shape configured to control a travelling direction of non-reflected light.

An illumination apparatus comprises a plurality of LEDs aligned to an array of directional optical elements wherein the LEDs are substantially at the input aperture of respective optical elements. An electrode array is formed on the array of optical elements to provide at least a first electrical connection to the array of LED elements. Advantageously such an arrangement provides low cost and high efficiency from the directional LED array.

An illumination apparatus comprises a plurality of LEDs aligned to an array of directional optical elements wherein the LEDs are substantially at the input aperture of respective optical elements. An electrode array is formed on the array of optical elements to provide at least a first electrical connection to the array of LED elements. Advantageously such an arrangement provides low cost and high efficiency from the directional LED array.

An integrated ceiling device includes integrated ceiling device including an electronic device housing, a heat dissipating structure, a light source, and a reflection/refraction assembly. An air gap is defined between the electronics housing and other components allowing ambient air to flow therethrough for cooling.
