Fuel combustion system

A combustion system comprises a discharge nozzle with concentric air and fuel orifices. A fuel conduit is coupled to each fuel orifice while an air conduit is coupled to each air orifice. The fuel and air only mixing with one another upon discharge. A supplemental air source supplies supplement air for combustion. An air deflector disk supports the discharge nozzle and a cylindrical blast tube surrounds the air deflector sleeve and the air deflector disk while an outlet end of the cylindrical blast tube supports a flame retention head. The deflector disk permits some combustion air to flow into the combustion chamber while redirecting a remaining portion of the supplement air. The flame retention head permits some of the supplement air to discharge into a burner box while redirecting the remaining supplement air radially inward through openings in the air deflector sleeve to assist with combustion of the fuel mixture.

LIQUID FUEL CARTRIDGE FOR A FUEL NOZZLE

A liquid fuel cartridge for a gas turbine fuel nozzle includes a tube having an inlet end and an outlet end with one or more fuel exit orifices; and a homogenizer located within the tube, adjacent and up-stream of the outlet end. The homogenizer is formed by a substantially-cylindrical body open at opposite ends, and a first row of circumferentially-spaced flanges projecting radially outwardly from the substantially cylindrical body, with radially-outer edges of said flanges engaged with an interior surface of the tube thereby creating a plurality of apertures for a liquid fuel and water emulsion. The homogenizer body may also be provided with a plurality of circumferentially-spaced radially-oriented orifices to promote better mixing of the fuel/water emulsion.

Integrated heat shield

A fuel injector for a gas turbine engine includes a nozzle tip assembly having a substantially monolithically formed nozzle body. The nozzle body has an annular outlet chamber for issuing a spray from the nozzle tip. A feed channel is in fluid communication with the outlet chamber through a feed passage. A heat shield void substantially surrounds the feed channel(s).
