Backside features with intermitted pin fins
A method of manufacturing a heat shield panel including pouring melted wax into a negative pattern of the heat shield panel, the heat shield panel including first pin fins with rounded tops and second pin fins with flat tops; allowing the wax to solidify to form a positive pattern of the heat shield panel; removing the positive pattern from the negative pattern by using an ejector rod to push the positive pattern away from the negative pattern at the flat top of each of the one or more second pin fins; coating the positive pattern with a ceramic; melting the positive pattern away from the ceramic, the ceramic having a cavity forming a second negative pattern of the heat shield panel; pouring melted metal into the cavity; allowing metal in the cavity to cool to form the heat shield panel; and removing the ceramic from the heat shield panel.
LINER COOLING STRUCTURE WITH REDUCED PRESSURE LOSSES AND GAS TURBINE COMBUSTOR HAVING SAME
A liner cooling structure of a duct assembly reduces pressure loss generated in the compressed air flow for cooling the liner. The duct assembly includes a liner, a transition piece, and a flow sleeve, and the transition piece and the flow sleeve form a transition piece channel through which a main stream of compressed air is introduced to the duct assembly. The liner cooling structure includes a first flow passage through which the main stream of compressed air passes in a first direction; and a second flow passage formed as a plurality of inlet holes in the flow sleeve to communicate with the first flow passage and configured to pass an auxiliary stream of compressed air in a second direction from outside the flow sleeve to inside the flow sleeve, the auxiliary stream joining the main stream such that the second direction forms an acute angle with the first direction.
Combustor panel mounting systems and methods
Combustors of gas turbine engines having a combustor shell having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a first securing element positioned at the first end of the combustor shell, a second securing element positioned at the second end of the combustor shell, a plurality of high temperature material panels fixedly secured by the first securing element at the first end and the second securing element at the second, wherein a panel gap is formed between edges of adjacent high temperature material panels of the plurality of high temperature material panels, and a seal divider extending from the first end to the second end and positioned on the combustor shell and arranged to seal the panel gap between adjacent first and second high temperature material panels.
Single-walled combustor for a gas turbine engine and method of manufacture
A single-walled combustor includes a multi-layered wall having a first face defining a cooling plenum and an opposite second face. A thermal barrier coating of the wall may be secured to the second face and defines at least in-part a combustion chamber. A plurality of cooling circuits each extend through the base layer and the thermal barrier coating for flowing cooling air from the plenum and into the combustion chamber. Each circuit includes a first surface recessed from the second face and spaced from the thermal barrier coating with a channel defined in-part by the first surface and covered by the thermal barrier coating. A hole in the thermal barrier coating is in fluid communication between the channel and the combustion chamber. A method of manufacturing the circuit includes fabricating the base layer with the aperture and hole; then placing an insert into the channel prior to application of the coating over the base layer and insert. The insert is then removed and the film cooling hole is formed through the coating.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR VARIABLE MICROCHANNEL COMBUSTOR LINER COOLING
In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, a system includes a combustor liner disposed about a combustion chamber of a combustor of a gas turbine system. The combustor liner includes an inner wall portion exposed to the combustion chamber, an outer wall portion disposed about the inner wall portion, and multiple channels between the inner and outer wall portions of the combustor liner. Each channel of the multiple channels is configured to direct a coolant along the combustor liner to convectively cool the combustor liner, and each channel of the multiple channels includes a cross-sectional area that progressively changes along a length of each channel of the plurality of channels.
BACKSIDE FEATURES WITH INTERMITTED PIN FINS
A heat shield panel for a combustor of a gas turbine engine including a panel body having a first surface and a second surface. The second surface being configured to be oriented toward a combustor liner of the combustor. The heat shield further includes a plurality of first pin fins projecting from the second surface of the panel body. Each of the plurality of first pin fins has a rounded top opposite the second surface. The heat shield further includes a plurality of second pin fins projecting from the second surface of the panel body. Each of the plurality of second pin fins has a flat top opposite the second surface. The plurality of second pin fins are intermittently spaced amongst the plurality of first pin fins. The plurality of second pin fins are organized in a uniform distribution across the second surface of the heat shield panel.
Cooled wall assembly for a combustor and method of design
A wall assembly that may be for a combustor of a gas turbine engine includes a liner having a hot face that defines a combustion chamber, an opposite cold face, and a plurality of effusion holes. A shell of the assembly is spaced outward from the cold face and includes a plurality of impingement holes each having a centerline orientated substantially normal to the cold face. A plurality of cooling member arrays of the liner each include a first plurality of members that may be pins projecting outward from the cold face to conduct heat out of the liner. Each array is spaced between adjacent effusion holes and is symmetrically orientated about the respective centerline.
End rail mate-face low pressure vortex minimization
A combustor assembly for a turbine engine includes a liner panel defining a portion of an inner surface of a combustor chamber.
