Method for spatially-localized gas-phase temperature measurements through ceramic materials

A method of measuring a temperature of a thermally-insulated, high temperature system. The method includes directing a first electromagnetic energy into the high temperature system so that the first electromagnetic energy may cause multi-photon ionization of a molecular or atomic species within the high temperature system. A second electromagnetic energy resulting from the multi-photon ionization is detected through a thermally-insulating wall of the high temperature system. The detected second electromagnetic energy is related to a temperature within the high temperature system.

System and method for optimizing passive control of oscillatory instabilities in turbulent flows

The invention discloses a system for effecting a control strategy in a reactive flow field of a turbulent flow system. The system is configured to analyze flow field properties such as velocity, heat release rate, or mixture fraction of a device during the onset of the oscillatory instability using measures from complex network theory such as betweenness centrality, degree, or closeness. The system identifies critical regions in the flow field responsible for the oscillatory instability. Further, the system also identifies optimal control strategies to avoid the onset of oscillatory instabilities by analyzing the relative strength of various network parameters and thereby controlling oscillatory instabilities which are detrimental to the fluid dynamic system. The disclosed method and system provide for optimization of control of oscillatory instabilities in fluid dynamic systems.

MONITORING AND MAINTAINING FLARE TIP TEMPERATURES

A data stream indicative of a first set of flare tip parameters is received. A second set of parameters is determined based on the first set of flare tip parameters. A control signal is sent to an actuable device based on the first set of parameters and the second set of parameters. The actuable device is configured to maintain at least one parameter of the first set of parameter and the second set of parameters within a specified range.

Apparatus and method for using model training and adaptation to detect furnace flooding or other conditions

A flame show is responsive to an audio input signal such as music. A base unit including an analog base unit controller circuit is arranged to receive an audio input signal and generate an analog control signal that is responsive to the audio input signal. The analog control signal is distributed, by wire or wireless, to one or more flame display units such as a tiki torch. Each flame display unit has a fuel source, and a proportional valve for controlling an amount of fuel supplied to a burner. Preferably, the control signal controls a gate terminal of a MOSFET semiconductor device, which in turn is coupled to control current in the proportional valve each each unit. By deploying multiple flame display units, all coupled to the same base unit, all of the flame display units contribute synchronously to the overall flame show.
