More specifically, the present invention provides for both a knife, and fire starting capability in one piece, which are both crucial to outdoor survival and useful in general camping and hiking activities. The handle can be hollow to contain a small survival kit, and the grips can be wrapped in paracord for other multiple outdoor survival uses.

A fire starter includes a casing made from a first material a first material having a first time associated therewith that defines a length of time that the casing burns after being ignited. An igniter, disposed in the casing and adjacent to the second material, generates a first thermal event to ignite the second material wherein the second material combusts to define a second thermal event that ignites the first material. An actuator is coupled to the igniter and is positioned outside of the casing for activating the igniter to generate the first thermal event.

Tinder and small survival items are stored within the device while a ferrocerium rod and scraper are stored externally. The replaceable scraper is fastened to one of the storage tube caps which allows the storage tube to be used as a handle for holding the scraper which greatly increases directional control while generating sparks. The ferrocerium rod is tethered to the opposite storage tube cap and secured within a sheath which prevents loss of the ferrocerium and provides a larger mechanism for holding the ferrocerium rod during spark generation.
