A fan-on Fault Detection Diagnostic (FDD) and correction method comprising at least one method selected from the group consisting of: detecting a Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC) fan is controlled by a fan-on duration setting or a continuous or intermittent fan-on duration setting or schedule, and performing at least one action selected from the group consisting of: providing at least one fan-on alarm message, overriding the fan-on duration setting or the fan-on duration schedule, and turning off the HVAC fan for a fraction of the fan-on duration setting or schedule. Turning off the HVAC fan is based on at least one method selected from the group consisting of: a variable duration, skipping a scheduled fan-on duration setting, based on a call for cooling/heating, based on a geofencing or occupancy sensor signal, and based on a user-selected fan-on duration setting or a user-selected fan-off duration schedule.

MULTIFUNCTION ADAPTIVE WHOLE HOUSE FAN SYSTEM

A multifunction adaptive whole house fan system can include a whole house fan to pull large volume of air through a building structure. The whole house fan can pull air from a window or damper into the building structure and expel air through an attic. The system can monitor the environment to operate the whole house fan when desired conditions are present in coordination with other systems of the building structure to reduce overall energy consumption.

An exhaust hood system can include an intake located within a building, an output, a duct positioned between the intake and the output, the duct fluidly connecting the intake and the output together, a filter positioned within the duct, the filter emitting a liquid within a portion of the duct, a drain in fluid communication with the filter, and a chamber comprising a photosynthetic agent or a fungal agent. The chamber can be in fluid communication with the drain.

Systems and methods for energy recovery of an HVAC system

The present disclosure relates to a heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system including an exhaust plenum configured to receive an exhaust air flow from a cooling load. The HVAC system also includes a condenser configured to receive an input air flow and transfer thermal energy to the input air flow. A panel is positioned directly adjacent to and between the exhaust plenum and the condenser. The panel includes a passage providing a fluid flow path directly between the exhaust plenum and the condenser. The passage is configured to discharge a portion of the exhaust air flow, and the input air flow includes the portion.

Direct room economizer

A device and a method to provide direct room air cooling. The device is a duct-less economizer that runs independent of existing HVAC systems. The device has its own thermostat setting and is capable of providing significant insulation values when closed. In addition, the method by which the device determines the availability of cool air is improved. This is achieved by using internet weather data, to read outdoor heat indexes, instead of primarily relying on local sensors.

Apparatus and method for fresh air cooling of a residence or building utilizing a thermostat
11754308 · 2023-09-12 ·

A system and method for cooling a building using cool fresh outside air is disclosed. When the integrated thermostat is operating during a heating period, the integrated thermostat operates a remote air conditioning unit, such as a furnace, an HVAC unit, an electric baseboard heater, or a heat pump, to heat air provided to the building interior. When the integrated thermostat is operating during a cooling period or a fresh air cooling period, the integrated thermostat compares the indoor air temperature with the temperature of the outdoor fresh air. The integrated thermostat operates a remote fan, such as a whole-house exhaust fan, to draw the cooler fresh air into the building interior in response to the outdoor air temperature being less than the indoor air temperature and/or in response to the indoor temperature being greater than a fresh air cooling set point stored in the memory.

System and method for monitoring air quality while cooling an outdoor electronic display assembly

A system and method for monitoring air quality is disclosed. A housing for an electronic display has a first pathway which extends between an ingestion area and an exhaustion area. An air quality monitoring device is located along said pathway and has one or more sensors that measure the concentration of various gases. The air quality monitoring device has a housing with a second pathway which connects an entrance aperture to exit aperture. The entrance aperture being configured to permit a portion of the ambient air in the first pathway to enter the second pathway.

Using liquid to air membrane energy exchanger for liquid cooling

Systems and methods for controlling conditions in an enclosed space, such as a data center, or for providing cooling to a device, can include using a Liquid-to-Air Membrane Energy Exchanger (LAMEE) as an evaporative cooler. The LAMEE or exchanger can cool water to the outdoor air wet bulb temperature in a cooling system disposed outside of the enclosed space or device. The reduced-temperature water can be delivered to the enclosed space or device or can cool a coolant that is delivered to the enclosed space or device. The air in the enclosed space, or one or more components in the enclosed space, can be cooled by delivering the reduced-temperature water or coolant to the enclosed space, rather than moving the supply air from the enclosed space to the cooling system. In an example, the cooling system can include one or more cooling coils, upstream or downstream of the LAMEE.
