Air circulation systems and methods
Systems and methods for air flow circulation are described which utilize one or more air conditioning units as well as transfer grilles to move cooler air from one space to another. The transfer grilles can include bi-directional in-line fans to move air between spaces in discrete ducts located between the spaces. Motorized dampers can be controlled by a controller that receives information about various rooms and areas from temperature and occupancy sensors within those rooms or areas. In this manner, conditioned air can be directed to those rooms that are occupied and whose temperature needs correction based on a thermostat setting, and use of the air conditioning unit can be avoided when a cool air source is present in another space.
Air-conditioning system with refrigerant leak detection and countermeasures
An air-conditioning system includes: an air conditioner including a refrigerant circuit formed by connecting an outdoor unit and a plurality of indoor units together, the air conditioner being configured to condition air in a plurality of indoor spaces; at least one countermeasure device provided in correspondence with at least one of the plurality of indoor spaces and configured to operate during leakage of a refrigerant; a plurality of detectors configured to detect a concentration of the refrigerant, at least one of the detectors being provided in each of the plurality of indoor spaces; and a control unit configured to operate all of the at least one countermeasure device if at least one of the concentrations of the refrigerant respectively detected by the plurality of detectors exceeds a predetermined value.

Single-package air conditioner and methods of operation
A single-package air conditioner unit, as provided herein, may include a cabinet, an outdoor heat exchanger, an indoor heat exchanger, a compressor, and a controller. The cabinet may define an outdoor portion and an indoor portion. The outdoor heat exchanger may be disposed in the outdoor portion. The indoor heat exchanger may be disposed in the indoor portion. The compressor may be in fluid communication with the outdoor heat exchanger and the indoor heat exchanger to circulate a refrigerant therebetween. The controller may be in operative communication with the compressor. The controller may be configured to initiate a conditioning operation. The conditioning operation may include receiving a demand response signal corresponding to electric power access, determining occupancy of an indoor environment, and initiating a responsive conditioning cycle in response to receiving the demand response signal, the responsive conditioning cycle being based on the determined occupancy.

Systems and methods for providing hub-based motion detection using distributed, light-based motion sensors
Systems and methods are provided herein for determining motion in a volume using a lighting based sensor. A status of a light is determined with which a motion sensor is associated. Motion measurements are received from the motion sensor. Based on the motion measurements, a motion score is determined. A room status is adjusted based on the motion score.
Devices and methods for interacting with an HVAC controller
An HVAC controller controlled in response to a natural language audio message that is not recognizable by the HVAC controller as a command, where the natural language audio message is translated into a command recognizable by the HVAC controller. The HVAC controller may be a thermostat and may include a housing that at least partially houses a control module, a microphone, a speaker, a display, and a voice recognition module. The voice recognition module recognizes a predetermined audible trigger from a recorded voice message or streamed voice message, and in response, provide one or more audio clips via the speaker and/or video clips via the display to assist users in operating the thermostat. A user may communicate with the thermostat via the thermostat and/or a remote device.
HVAC zoning devices, systems, and methods
A heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system may be zoned into one or more zone. The HVAC system may include HVAC components, sensors, and one or more register vents that may include vent dampers (e.g., electronically controllable vent dampers or manually operated vent dampers). Opening and closing of the vent dampers may facilitate creating zones or sub-zones in the HVAC system configuration. An HVAC control system may receive a request for conditioned air in one or more of the zones, determine a damper setting for at least one of the vent dampers, communicate the determined damper setting to a vent damper or user interface, determine which HVAC components should be active, if any, and/or provide controls signals to activate or keep active the HVAC components that are determined to be active.
