Renewable energy hot water heater with heat pump
Provided herein are various systems and methods (i.e., utilities) broadly directed to the generation of hot water using energy derived from renewable energy sources as an alternative to or in conjunction with another power source (e.g., fossil fuel-based energy from a utility provider, an underperforming solar/wind/wind system, etc.). In the various aspects, these utilities are directed to the retrofitting of existing water heaters with electrical heating elements that are connectable to a renewable source of electrical energy. While primarily discussed in relation to retrofitting existing water heaters, various aspects are applicable to OEM manufactured systems. Further, various control methods are provided that allow for enhancing the efficiency of hot water generation, net metering, and/or the generation of renewable energy credits.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROL OF ELECTRIC WATER HEATER
System and methods of operating a water heater receiving power from an electrical grid. The water heater includes a heating element, a controller, and a first control circuit. The first control circuit including an energizing terminal and a microprocessor. The method includes connecting an energizing terminal of the first control circuit between a power output terminal of the controller and the heating element, receiving driving power from the controller based on a temperature signal. The method also includes receiving a control signal from the controller based on electrical grid information, and selectively energizing the heating element, by the microprocessor of the first control circuit and through the energizing terminal of the first control circuit based on the control signal.
Field configurable low water cut-offs
A low water cutoff switch controller features a dual inline package (DIP) in combination with low water cutoff switch processor. The dual inline package (DIP) has DIP switches, each DIP switch configured to set in a respective application type or mode corresponding to a particular water heater model for the low water cutoff switch controller to control, and also configured to provide DIP switch signaling containing information about a respective DIP switch set. The low water cutoff switch processor is configured to respond to the DIP switch signaling, and also configured to respond to corresponding signaling containing information about a sensed water level contained in the particular water heater model being controlled by the low water cutoff switch controller, and provide control signaling containing information to control the operation of the particular water heater model. The low water cutoff switch controller is a single controller that can be used for controlling any one of a plurality of different water heater models and have different voltage applications by setting a respective one of the DIP switches.
Apparatus and method for heating air at an air treatment device
An air treatment device (1) and a method for heating of aft, in a heating mode, at an air handling unit (2), which comprises a heat recovery device (3). The device further comprises a heat pump (6), comprising an evaporator (7), arranged in a first air stream (4), in the flow direction, after the heat recovery device (3), and a condenser (8) arranged in a second air stream (5), in the flow direction, after the heat recovery device (3). The device further comprises an auxiliary heater (9) for supplying, in addition to the recovered energy, external heat energy. The auxiliary heater (9) is positioned in the first air stream (4), in the flow direction, after the heat recovery device (3) and before the evaporator (7) for heating and thereby the heat pump (6) operation is maintained and a better total efficiency for the plant is achieved.
Field Conversion Electric Water Heater
An electric water heater has upper and lower electric resistance type heating elements respectively controlled by a single pole, double throw upper thermostat and a single pole, single throw lower thermostat. The upper and lower thermostats are operatively interconnected by a wiring harness having outer conductor end portions that are connected to a terminal block portion of an external junction box to provide the water heater with a variety of heating element operating modes without having to replace either of the thermostats, vary the wiring harness interconnections therebetween, or vary the connection between the outer conductor end portions and the terminal block. The water heater may thus be advantageously manufactured in a single variant that may be easily and quickly modified in the field to selectively alter the heating element control mode of the water heater.
Circulating liquid bath with dual reservoir level switch
A circulating bath (10) including a heater (18) configured to heat a fluid (34) in a reservoir (22). The heater (18) is configured to be operatively connected to a source of power (50) by a control circuit (39) operatively coupled to the heater (18). First and second fluid level sensors (14) (16) are operatively coupled to the control circuit (39), and provide signals indicative of a low fluid condition in the reservoir (22). The control circuit (39) is configured to receive the signals from the fluid level sensors (14) (16), and disconnect the heater (18) from the source of power (50) in response to receiving a signal from either of the first and second fluid level sensors (14), (16) indicative of a low fluid condition.
Blower assembly with compensation for vent back pressure
A blower assembly is configured for use with a gas-operated heater having a burner and an exhaust port. The blower assembly has a blower and a sensor. The blower is configured to operate at two or more speeds and is configured to operatively connect to the burner in a manner to facilitate flow of combustion air into the burner and to facilitate flow of exhaust through the exhaust port. The sensor is configured to be sensitive to pressure of exhaust downstream of the blower. The sensor is operatively connected to the blower in a manner such that the blower will change speeds if said pressure exceeds a threshold pressure.
AIR HEATING DEVICE
A universal air heating device that can be attached to an existing device. The universal air heating device includes a housing, one or more heating elements contained within the housing, one or more temperature regulating elements for controlling the heating element(s), and an attachment mechanism for attaching the air heating device to an existing device.
DEVICE FOR DISPENSING HOT WATER
Dispensing of hot water having an adjustable temperature by way of a water outlet fitting that can be installed on a sink. This is achieved by a continuous flow heater and a measured value sensor arranged in a water inlet of the water outlet fitting as the hot water heater. The measured value sensor detects a measurement variable with regard to water flowing through the continuous flow heater (10). The water dispensing device has a control unit, which is designed to regulate a flow rate through the continuous flow heater as a function of measured values of the measured value sensor in order to adjust the temperature of the hot water.
