Support Assembly For Photovoltaic Modules And Mounting System Using The Same
A support assembly for mounting photovoltaic modules on a support surface and a mounting system including the same are disclosed herein. The support assembly may comprise a the body portion including a base portion and at least one upright support member coupled to the base portion, the at least one upright support member comprising an integrally formed ballast tray slot in one side thereof for receiving an upturned edge of a ballast tray; and at least one clamp subassembly coupled to the at least one upright support member of the body portion, the at least one clamp subassembly configured to be coupled to one or more photovoltaic modules. In addition to a plurality of support assemblies, the mounting system may further comprise at least one ballast tray support bracket, the ballast tray support bracket supporting a portion of a ballast tray on the support surface.
Low-sloped roof solar mounting systems
A mounting system for supporting a plurality of photovoltaic modules on a support surface, such as a low-sloped roof, is disclosed herein. The mounting system includes a plurality of telescoping tubular members configured to support photovoltaic modules on a support surface, and configured to be adjustably attached to one another so as to accommodate undulations and uneven regions of the support surface, and at least one of the plurality of telescoping tubular members comprising an arched portion so as to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. In another embodiment, a plurality of strut members are used to support the modules. In yet another embodiment, a plurality of support members adjustably support one or more photovoltaic modules on a support surface so that the one or more photovoltaic modules are capable of passively tilting in response to external forces acting thereon and/or a heat source, such as the sun, acting thereon.

Method for installing a solar panel array using a modular ballast system
A modular ballast system for supporting objects uses tubing such as pipes of appropriate size for the required ballast. Once in place, the empty pipes are filled with a watery mix (slurry) of sand, silt, gravel, soil, cement or other generally available material to generate a majority of the ballast weight. A two piece clamping mechanism provides fixed placement attachment points suitable for attachment by supported structures. The lower piece of the clamping mechanism sits under the ballast tubing and is designed to both support and disperse the anticipated weight of the objects with minimal impact on the surface beneath it. The upper piece of the clamping mechanism mates to the lower clamping piece and completes a full 360 degree collar around the ballast tubing to create a durable clamping mechanism that both captures the weight and position of the ballast tubing and prevents the ballast tubing from shifting.
