SYSTEMS AND METHODS ASSOCIATED WITH BOTTOMING CYCLE POWER SYSTEMS FOR GENERATING POWER, CAPTURING CARBON DIOXIDE AND PRODUCING PRODUCTS
A bottoming cycle power system includes a turbo-expander operable to rotate a turbo-crankshaft as a flow of exhaust gas from a combustion process passes through the turbo-expander. A turbo-compressor is operable to compress the flow of exhaust gas after the exhaust gas passes through the turbo-expander. An open cycle absorption chiller system includes an absorber section operable to receive the flow of exhaust gas from the turbo-expander and to mix the flow of exhaust gas with a first refrigerant solution within the absorber section. The first refrigerant solution is operable to absorb water from the exhaust gas as the exhaust gas passes through the first refrigerant solution. The absorber section is operable to route the flow of exhaust gas to the turbo-compressor after the flow of exhaust gas has passed through the first refrigerant solution.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SEPARATING A WORKING FLUID FROM AN ABSORBENT
Improvements in technologies for separating a working fluid from an absorbent, such as in absorption heat pumps, are provided. An absorption based system may be operated under a thermodynamic cycle(s) that use a semipermeable barrier(s) and related technologies to continuously regenerate working solution and absorbent rather than relying solely on a thermally driven generator for the regenerative function. In an aspect, the system utilizes a differential solubility technique for regeneration in which a separator device has a semipermeable barrier and receives solution containing working fluid absorbed into an absorbent. A solubility reducing substance is mixed with the solution in the separator. The substance reduces the solubility of the working fluid in the absorbent to separate the two. The absorbent is permeable to the semipermeable barrier whereas the solubility reducing substance is not, thereby allowing absorbent to flow out of the separator while the substance is retained therein.

Desalination and cooling system
A desalination and cooling system includes a single effect water-lithium bromide vapor absorption cycle (VAC) system and a forward osmosis with thermal-recovery (FO-TR) desalination system. The FO system employs a Thermo-Responsive Draw Solution (TRDS) Fresh water flows from the FS to the TRDS without application of pressure on the saline water. Afterwards, only thermal energy is required to extract fresh water from the TRDS and recover or regenerate the draw solution. The VAC system serves as a cooling source for cooling or air conditioning applications, generating waste heat as a result. The waste heat generated by the VAC system provides the thermal energy needed to recover the draw solution (DS). The VAC system can be powered by low-grade heat sources like solar thermal energy.
In-vehicle absorption heat pump device
An in-vehicle absorption heat pump device includes: a regenerator including a gas-liquid separation unit that separates a diluted absorbent containing a refrigerant into the refrigerant and a concentrated absorbent separated from the diluted absorbent; a condenser that condenses a refrigerant vapor separated from the diluted absorbent in the gas-liquid separation unit; an evaporator that evaporates the refrigerant condensed in the condenser; an absorber that causes the refrigerant evaporated by the evaporator to be absorbed into the concentrated absorbent separated from the diluted absorbent in the gas-liquid separation unit; and a storage tank that stores both the diluted absorbent discharged from the absorber and the refrigerant discharged from the evaporator. The storage tank is integrally provided below both the absorber and the evaporator, and communicates with both the absorber and the evaporator.
Absorption chiller
An absorption chiller includes a boiler with a vessel for storing a working fluid and a heat source configured to heat the working fluid. A first device is configured to cool the working fluid, and a second device is configured to cool the working fluid. A flow path is arranged to enable the working fluid to flow from the boiler through the first device, through the second device and back to the boiler. A first waste heat source is generated by the first device when cooling the working fluid. The first waste heat source is configured to heat the working fluid along the flow path after exiting the second device and prior to re-entering the boiler.
