At least one of the compressors is a main compressor (3) being fluidly connected to an outlet of the evaporator (8) and at least one of the compressors is a receiver compressor (12) being fluidly connected to a gaseous outlet (10) of the receiver (6). A flow of vapour entering the receiver (6), such as a mass flow of vapour entering the receiver (6) is estimated and compared to a first threshold value. In the case that the estimated flow is above the first threshold value, a pressure prevailing inside the receiver (6) is controlled by operating the receiver compressor (12).

Refrigeration systems and control methods therefor are described. The refrigeration systems include a main circuit to connect, through a pipeline, a multi-stage compressor, a condenser, an economizer, a main throttling element, and an evaporator. An air supply branch is configured to connect to the air outlet of the economizer and the intermediate stage air inlet of the multi-stage compressor. A liquid injection branch is configured to connect to the intermediate stage air inlet of the multi-stage compressor from a section having a high-pressure liquid-phase refrigerant in the main circuit. Through the design of the liquid injection branch, the liquid-phase refrigerant can be introduced when vibration or noise of the unit exceeds a limit. The liquid-phase refrigerant, in the form of droplets, can effectively absorb the sound wave energy in the compressor pipeline to reduce an overall discharge pulsation of the compressor and reduce the noise and vibration of the condenser.

A cooling system is designed to generally allow for one or more compressors to be bypassed when ambient temperatures are low. The system includes a bypass line and valve that opens when ambient temperatures are low and/or when the pressure of the refrigerant in the system is low. In this manner, the refrigerant can flow through the bypass line instead of through one or more compressors. These compressors may then be shut off. To supply any needed pressure to cycle the refrigerant, the system may include a pump that turns on when the bypass line is open. When ambient temperatures are extremely low, thermosiphon may be used to cycle the refrigerant.
