An active seal arrangement operably connected to a radiator and condenser of a vehicle. The arrangement includes at least one movable seal. The seal is selectively movable between a closed, air-restricting position and an open, air-passing position. The seal is slidably attached to a side wall fitted between the radiator and the condenser. A position controller operably connected to at least one sensor regulates the position of the seal.

Determination of stuck reversing valve
11193686 · 2021-12-07 · ·

An HVAC system includes a reversing valve configured to receive compressed refrigerant and direct the refrigerant based on an operating mode of the HVAC system. One or more suction-side sensors measure suction-side properties associated with refrigerant provided to an inlet of the compressor. The suction-side properties comprise a suction-side temperature. One or more liquid-side sensors measure liquid-side properties associated with the refrigerant provided from an outlet of the compressor. A controller monitors the suction-side property and liquid-side property. The controller determines whether the suction-side property is greater than the liquid-side property. If the suction-side temperature is greater than the liquid-side temperature, the reversing valve is determined to be in an equalizing configuration. The equalizing configuration corresponds to a configuration in which the refrigerant provided from the outlet of the compressor is directed to the inlet of the compressor without first being directed to other components of the HVAC system.

Dome-loaded back pressure regulator with setpoint pressure energized by process fluid

A method of operating a thermal system including at least a compressor, a condenser, a flow control valve, and at least one heat exchanger connected in a closed fluid loop charged with refrigerant. The method includes: regulating refrigerant pressure at a selected point within the fluid loop using a pressure regulating apparatus including: a main pressure regulator including a dome in fluid communication with a diaphragm that seals directly against at least one process void and at least one vent void; and a pilot pressure regulator in fluid communication with the dome so as to provide fluid thereto at a setpoint pressure. The setpoint pressure is maintained by the pilot pressure regulator utilizing refrigerant tapped from the fluid loop The refrigerant is tapped from a point upstream of the main pressure regulator and tapped refrigerant is returned to the fluid loop downstream of the main pressure regulator.

A heat pump configured by connecting a circuit including a variable capacity compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve, and an evaporator through a closed refrigerant line, includes a condenser fan, an evaporator fan, a refrigerant amount adjusting means for charging or recovering a refrigerant in or from the circuit, and a controller. Roles of the controller include setting a target pressure inside an outdoor heat exchanger y referring to an outside temperature and a load, setting a target pressure inside an indoor heat exchanger by referring to an inside temperature and a set temperature, setting a target sub-cooling degree and a target super-heating degree, and controlling both of the fans to either adjust temperature or adjust pressure.

REFRIGERANT LEAKAGE DETERMINATION SYSTEM
20220187000 · 2022-06-16 · ·

A refrigerant leakage determination system includes a refrigerant circuit including a compressor, a condenser, an expansion mechanism, and an evaporator. The system performs a first determination, and a second determination. The first determination determines that refrigerant has leaked from the refrigerant circuit, by using a first state amount of refrigerant as a determination index, the first state amount including at least one of an outlet temperature of the condenser, a suction temperature of the compressor, and a discharge temperature of the compressor. The second determination determines that refrigerant has leaked from the refrigerant circuit, based on information different from the first state amount.

Cooling system with parallel compression using medium temperature compressors
11353245 · 2022-06-07 · ·

A cooling system is designed to operate in two different modes. Generally, in the first mode, when parallel compression is needed, certain valves are controlled to direct gaseous refrigerant from a tank to a compressor in the system and to direct refrigerant from low side heat exchangers towards other compressors. In this manner, a compressor in the system is transitioned to be generally a parallel compressor. In the second mode, when parallel compression is not needed, the valves are controlled to return the refrigerant flow back to normal.

PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM FOR REFRIGERATION CYCLE APPARATUS

A performance degradation diagnosis system includes a determining unit, and control unit. A refrigeration cycle apparatus includes a refrigerant circuit having a compressor, heat-source-side heat exchanger, and use-side heat exchanger. The determining unit determines, based on an index indicating an operation state of the refrigeration cycle apparatus, performance degradation of the refrigeration cycle apparatus with respect to each of a plurality of performance degradation factors. In a case in which the determining unit determines performance degradation, the control unit grasps an operation condition of the refrigeration cycle apparatus which is operating. In a case in which the operation condition of the refrigeration cycle apparatus is not suitable to determine performance degradation with respect to a performance degradation factor of a determination target, the control unit controls the operation condition of the refrigeration cycle apparatus so that the operation condition of the refrigeration cycle apparatus becomes an appropriate operation condition.
