Gas injection system, furnace provided with such a system and use thereof
A gas injection system includes a tubular wall 3 capable of being thermally stressed and having a proximal extremity and a distal extremity 11, at the distal extremity, at least one extremity opening through which at least one gas is projected. A cooling is system located in the tubular wall including axial channels 12 which extend axially towards the distal extremity and in which a cooling fluid is circulated. Connecting channels 13 circumferentially join the axial channels to each other at the distal extremity of the tubular wall. The connecting channels, which circumferentially join the axial channels at the distal extremity of the tubular wall, have a rounded shape in the direction of the distal extremity.

MULTI-PURPOSE PUMP SYSTEM FOR A METAL FURNACE AND RELATED METHODS
A pump system for a metal furnace includes a tank and a magnetic stirrer. The tank includes a tank chamber that is configured to receive a fluid, such as a molten material. The tank is positioned above magnetic stirrer and such that the magnetic stirrer is outside of the tank chamber. The magnetic stirrer includes a rotating permanent magnet configured to generate a moving magnetic field in the molten material in the tank chamber that induces movement in the molten material.
INERT GAS BLANKETING OF ELECTRODES IN AN ELECTRIC ARC FURNACE
A method for providing a region of inert gas around the electrodes in an electric arc furnace is provided. This electric arc furnace includes consumable graphite electrodes, a melting zone, and at least one lance including an inlet and an outlet, wherein the inlet is connected to a liquid inert fluid source. The method includes introducing the consumable graphite electrodes into the melting zone, wherein the distal ends of the electrodes form arcs with a solid charge of scrap metal. The method also includes introducing the liquid inert fluid into the inlet end of the at least one lance, wherein the inert fluid exits the outlet end and is introduced into the melting zone proximate to the distal ends of the electrodes, thereby providing an inert gaseous blanket, once the liquid vaporizes, around the distal ends of the electrodes
METAL MELTING APPARATUS, SCREEN PLATE FOR METAL MELTING, AND METHOD OF MELTING METAL
A metal melting apparatus capable of providing a clear melt with little oxides, even when either one or a mixture of scrap material and fresh material is supplied. Solution is provided by a metal melting apparatus including melting chamber to which a melt raw material is supplied, and gas injection system for injecting gas into melt in the melting chamber to generate a vortex of melt in the melting chamber.

Starting a smelting process
A method of starting a molten bath-based process for smelting a metalliferous material is disclosed. The method includes using the heat flux of water-cooled elements in lower parts of a smelting vessel to provide an indication of molten bath temperature during at least an early part of the start-up method and adjusting injection rates of oxygen-containing gas and/or carbonaceous material into the smelting vessel to control the molten bath temperature during start-up without exceeding critical heat flux levels and tripping the start-up method.
