Heat exchanger
11408686 · 2022-08-09 · ·

A heat exchanger prevents cracking in heat transfer plates while avoiding lowering heat-exchange efficiency. Heat transfer plates are arranged with a space between them, and a hollow pipe extends through the plates. A high-temperature gas flows through the space to exchange heat with a liquid in the hollow pipe. The heat transfer plates are elongated in the direction in which parts of the hollow pipe are aligned and can thus have thermal expansion accumulating in the elongation direction. The heat transfer plates each include a thermal expansion absorber between an edge of the heat transfer plate receiving inflow of the high-temperature gas and an inter-pipe portion between adjacent parts of the hollow pipe to absorb thermal expansion of the heat transfer plate. A selected one or more of the inter-pipe portions, rather than all, include the thermal expansion absorber.

HVAC Hydronic System with Split Buffer Tank for Zero-Mixing System Operation

The present invention relates to HVAC-systems operating under new ZERO-MIXING (ZM) water flow condition as innovative way to promote consistent highly energy efficient performance on SOURCE-heating/cooling thermal production and BUILDING's system distribution (FIG. 1). ZM technology is applicable; but not limited, to large-residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. Current state on HVAC technology, for system hydronics loop-flow, do not provide flows temperature segregation mechanisms between heating/chiller-plants hot/cold water supply and warmer water system returns. The result, a system that continuously operates at WATER MIXING conditions that impair equipment efficiency and output, and therefore, overall system energy performance.

Clamshell Heat Exchangers

A clamshell heat exchanger for use in a combustion furnace of an HVAC system is presented that includes in one instance two passageways coupled by a turnaround passageway. The first passageway that receives the combustion products diverges. A cross section of the first passageway resembles a tear drop or air foil with the widest portion closest to the second passageway. The second passageway also diverges from the turnaround portion towards the outlet. The second passageway may include a baffle that forms two flow streams. Other embodiments are presented.

The sidewall section has a configuration in which an inner plate and an outer plate overlap each other, the protruding part of the first header section is provided on the inner plate and protrudes toward an inside of the case, and the protruding part of the second header section is provided on the outer plate and protrudes toward an outside of the case.

STEAM CO-INJECTION FOR THE REDUCTION OF HEAT EXCHANGE AND FURNACE FOULING

A process for removing or reducing the accumulation of foulant within furnaces and heat exchangers in industrial systems such as an oil refinery by introducing a periodic steam blast. The steam blast is directed into the fluid stream from which the foulants form on to the heat exchanger surfaces. The steam blast increases the flow rates, creates turbulence and increases the temperature within the heat exchanger to dislodge foulant in both a soft and hardened states from internal surfaces upon which foulants have adhered and accumulated.
