A heat exchange structure includes a primary heat exchange body with a first fluid channel fluidly separated from a second fluid channel by a barrier channel, an inlet manifold in fluid communication with the first fluid channel, and a secondary heat exchange body. The secondary heat exchange body is in fluid communication with the barrier channel, is arranged within the inlet manifold, and fluidly couples the barrier channel to the external environment. Fluid systems and heat exchange methods are also described.
COMPONENT WITH A REGION TO BE COOLED AND MEANS FOR THE ADDITIVE MANUFACTURE OF SAME
A component with a region to be cooled having a cooling channel which is arranged and designed so as to cool the region of the component during operation by a fluid flow, wherein the cooling channel is defined by a first channel side facing the region and by a second channel side facing away from the region. The first channel side forms a larger contact surface for the cooling channel than the second channel side. An additive manufacture process can produce the component.
Constant density heat exchanger and system for energy conversion
A constant density heat exchanger is provided. The constant density heat exchanger includes a housing extending between a first end and a second end and defining a chamber having an inlet and an outlet. A first flow control device is positioned at the inlet of the chamber and movable between an open position in which a working fluid is permitted into the chamber and a closed position in which the working fluid is prevented from entering the chamber. A second flow control device is positioned at the outlet of the chamber and movable between an open position in which the working fluid is permitted to exit the chamber and a closed position in which the working fluid is prevented from exiting the chamber. A heat exchange fluid imparts thermal energy to the volume of working fluid held at constant density within the chamber by the first and second control devices.
THERMAL DEVICE
A thermal device includes a plate defining a plurality of convex curves and a plurality of concave curves. Each convex curve is positioned between a pair of adjacent concave curves of the plurality of concave curves. Each concave curve is positioned between a pair of adjacent convex curves of the plurality of convex curves. Each concave curve defines a vertex. The thermal device also includes a plurality of pins. Each pin of the plurality of pins extends from the vertex of a different concave curve of the plurality of concave curves and extends away from the plate.
Energy conversion apparatus
An energy conversion apparatus may include an engine assembly, such as a monolithic engine assembly. The engine assembly may include a first monolithic body segment and a plurality of second monolithic body segments directly coupled or directly couplable to the first monolithic body segment. The first monolithic body segment may define a combustion chamber and a recirculation pathway in fluid communication with the combustion chamber. The recirculation pathway may be configured to recirculate combustion gas through the combustion chamber. The plurality of second monolithic body segments may respectively define at least a portion of a piston chamber and a plurality of working-fluid pathways fluidly communicating with the piston chamber.
Heat exchanger having curved fluid passages for a gas turbine engine
A heat exchanger for a gas turbine engine includes a heat exchanger body having a first surface and a second surface oriented at least partially at an oblique angle relative to the first surface. The heat exchanger body defines a plenum extending between the first and second surfaces. Furthermore, the heat exchanger body defines a fluid passage extending through the second surface such that the fluid passage is in fluid communication with the plenum. The fluid passage, in turn, includes first and second portions. The first portion intersects the plenum at an intersection and defines a line of projection extending normal to the second surface. The second portion defines a line of projection extending normal to the first surface. The fluid passage further includes a curved portion extending from the first portion to the second portion.
Aircraft Heat Exchanger Panel Attachment
A heat exchanger for providing thermal energy transfer between a first flow along a first flowpath and a second flow along a second flowpath has at least one plate bank having a plurality of plates, each plate having: a first face and a second face opposite the first face; a leading edge along the second flowpath and a trailing edge along the second flowpath; a proximal edge having at least one inlet port along the first flowpath and at least one outlet port along the first flowpath; and at least one passageway along the first flowpath. An inlet manifold has a first face to which the plurality of plates are mounted along their respective proximal edges. An inlet plenum has at least one inlet port and at least one outlet port.
