An example heat exchange pad can include a surface defining an internal volume and having a flexible patient contacting portion, an inlet fluidly connected to the internal volume for delivery of fluid into the internal volume, an outlet fluidly connected to the internal volume for removal of fluid from the internal volume, and at least one extended surface structure positioned within the internal volume to disrupt laminar flow of fluid from the inlet to the outlet.
Dynamic temperature regulating device
A dynamic temperature regulating device is for use in association with a temperature-controlled container. The dynamic temperature regulating device includes at least one heat source, at least one heat sink, a heat transfer medium and a control system. At least one of the heat source and the heat sink is a PCM (phase change material). The heat transfer medium is in thermal communication with and operably connected to the at least one heat source and the at least one heat sink. The control system is for controlling the selective thermal communication with the at least one heat source and with the at least one heat sink to regulate the temperature of the temperature-controlled container. A detachable PCM contained volumes includes a sealed housing, a phase change material and a heat transfer medium and functions as a PCM thermal energy storage volume.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER FROM A BODY
Methods and apparatuses for temperature modification of a patient, or selected regions thereof, including an induced state of hypothermia. The temperature modification is accomplished using an in-dwelling heat exchange catheter within which a fluid heat exchange medium circulates. A heat exchange cassette is attached to the circulatory conduits of the catheter, the heat exchange cassette being sized to engage a cavity within a control unit. The control unit includes a heater/cooler device for providing heated or cooled fluid to a heat exchanger in thermal communication with the fluid heat exchange medium circulating to the heat exchange catheter, a user input device, and a processor connected to receive input from various sensors around the body and the system. A temperature control scheme for ramping the body temperature up or down without overshoot is provided.

A phantom for use in an MRI scanner includes an outer housing and a plurality of vessels located within the outer housing, where each of the vessels contains a material. The value of a property of the material at a particular temperature is different for each of the vessels. The phantom also includes a phase change material between the outer housing and the vessels. Also provided are a method for manufacturing a phantom, a method for obtaining calibrated measurements from non-calibrated images using a phantom, a system for obtaining calibrated measurements from non-calibrated images, and a coil assembly for use in an MRI scanner.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RAPIDLY COOLING OR HEATING THE BODY TEMPERATURE OF A PATIENT
An extracorporeal blood cooling or heating circuit includes an intravenous catheter for withdrawing a patient's blood coupled to a combined pump/heat exchanger device. One or more sensors are provided upstream and/or downstream of the pump/heat exchanger device for measuring pressure, temperature, fluid flow, blood oxygenation, and other parameters, A controller is operative!}′ coupled to the pump/heat exchanger device and the one or more sensors to control the speed of the pump inside the pump/heat exchanger device and regulate the blood temperature by controlling the operation of the heat exchanger. The combined pump/heat exchanger device includes a housing having at least one inlet and at least one outlet, a pump portion defining a blood circuit inside the housing, and a heat exchanger portion contained within the housing for selectively heating or cooling the blood.

A device for controlling the temperature of and thawing a temperature-controlled product, with a housing containing the temperature-controlled product, a heating module for introducing heat at least at one side of the temperature-controlled product and an actuating member, using which movement can be introduced into the temperature-controlled product. The actuating member is designed as a mechanical actuating element which extends along and ideally makes direct contact with the temperature-controlled product, and which can be controlled such that it executes a periodic and/or non-periodic movement.

A heat exchange system for a surgical instrument includes a valve, a load, and a load conduit extending between the valve and the load. The load conduit delivers fluid from the valve to the load. The heat exchange system also includes an exhaust conduit that directs the fluid away from the valve. A portion of the load conduit is positioned so as to thermally transfer heat to a portion of the exhaust conduit.
