A liquid heating appliance for heating water or other liquids, suitably to a target temperature of from 55° C. to around boiling point, includes a primary heat chamber or body (heat source chamber) that is thermally insulated and which in use contains a high thermal density heat storing liquid or solid; and a secondary chamber alongside the primary chamber through which a liquid to be heated is passed in use. The appliance has a heat transfer feature to selectively transfer thermal energy from the heat-storing liquid or solid to the liquid to be heated in the secondary chamber. The secondary chamber is preferably a conduit through which the liquid to be heated is able to flow and the thus heated liquid can be delivered to a tap as hot water for a range of uses. Water may also be heated for a central heating system for space heating.

The switching mechanism includes at least one connector which is thermally conductive, and is switchable between a first state in which the at least one connector is out of contact with the first panel or the second panel and a second state in which the at least one connector is in contact with both the first panel and the second panel.
PASSIVE AND COMPACT LIQUID METAL HEAT SWITCH
A passive heat switch device is disclosed that includes a casing defining a closed channel, as well as a passive thermal actuator and liquid slug positioned inside the closed channel. The closed channel includes a heat conducting region made of a heat conducting material and an insulating region made of an insulating material. The passive thermal actuator is thermally coupled to the heat conducting material of the heat conducting region and extends into the insulating region of the closed channel. The passive thermal actuator deforms when an actuator temperature falls within a switching temperature range. The liquid slug is positioned within the closed channel and contacts at least a portion of the passive thermal actuator and the closed channel and is configured to move along the closed channel between the insulating region and the thermally conductive region in response to deformation of the passive thermal actuator.
Apparatus and method for cooling substrate
The inventive concept relates to a substrate cooling apparatus for cooling a substrate. The substrate cooling apparatus includes a chuck on which the substrate is placed and a cooling unit that cools the chuck. The cooling unit includes a heat dissipation plate that has the chuck placed on an upper surface thereof and that dissipates heat of the chuck.
COMBINED ENERGY DISSIPATION APPARATUS AND METHOD
An apparatus and corresponding approaches for a combined energy dissipation include an energy dissipater forming a hollow chamber therein containing a partial pressure working fluid and a first adjustable thermal connector configured to be placed in an opening of the energy dissipater between an energy generating component to transfer energy there between. The first adjustable thermal connector includes a heat spreader at least partially disposed within the opening of the dissipater, an elastic member operably coupled to the energy dissipater, a flexible membrane coupled to the energy dissipater and the heat spreader, and a phase change material configured to at least partially fill an area defined by the opening, heat spreader, elastic member, and flexible membrane. Upon changing the phase change material to a first material phase, the elastic member applies a biasing force to the energy generating component to align the heat spreader with the energy generating component.
THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The present invention provides a vehicle (100) comprising: a body (4) having a skin; a heat source (12); and a thermal management system. The thermal management system comprises: a heat pipe (14) comprising: an evaporator end (close to 12) and a condenser end (close to heat exchanger 22a, 22b); a vapour arranged to flow from the evaporator end to the condenser end; and a working fluid arranged to flow from the condenser end to the evaporator end, wherein the heat pipe (14) is arranged such that the evaporator end is arranged in proximity to the heat source to absorb heat from the heat source; and one or more heat exchangers arranged in proximity to the condenser end and integrated with the skin. The present invention also provides a method of managing temperature in a vehicle.
A HEAT TRANSFER APPARATUS
In one aspect the invention provides a heat transfer apparatus which includes a transmitter object which defines an external collection surface and an internal transmission surface. Also provided is a receiver object displaced from the transmitter object, the receiver object defining an internal receiving surface and an external heat delivery surface. A thermal conduit is provided which incorporates at least one side wall connected between the transmitter object and receiver object, this at least one side wall spanning the distance between the transmitter object and receiver object and enclosing a volume between the transmitter and receiver objects. This side wall or walls enclose the internal transmission surface of the transmitter object and the internal receiving surface of the receiver object. The transmitter object, receiver object and thermal conduit are configured to promote heat transfer predominantly towards the receiver object.
Cooling module for a vehicle control unit, vehicle control unit with a cooling module and method for water cooling a vehicle control unit
The invention relates to a cooling module for a vehicle control unit, comprising a cooling element, connections for conducting a coolant through the cooling element, a turbulence insert placed in the cooling element comprising at least first cooling fins, and at least one first bimetal located in the cooling element, wherein the at least one first bimetal is placed such that it displaces the at least one group of first cooling fins depending on a temperature-dependent shape change of the at least one first bimetal. The invention also relates to a vehicle control unit with a cooling module and a method for water cooling a vehicle control unit.
Thermal switch
A thermal switch having an on-state and an off-state is provided. First and second plates are composed from a thermally conductive material. The first and second plates are connected to form an internal cavity having a channel defining a gap between the first and second plate. The first reservoir is coupled to the channel and contains a thermally conductive liquid. The actuator is coupled to the first reservoir and the channel and is moveable between a first state and a second state corresponding to the on-state and the off-state of the thermal switch, respectively.
