Cased telescoped ammunition firearm with dual feed

A weapon for firing cased telescoped (CT) ammunition includes a barrel, a chamber member and a carrier assembly. The chamber member defines a chamber for a CT round for firing, and translates between a firing position aligned with the barrel and an ejection/loading position. The chamber member is spring-biased toward the firing position. Dual-feed structure provides for both a magazine mode as well as a belt feed mode of operation.

An automatic or semiautomatic rifle having a short-stroke action with multiple firing chambers which are arranged radially around an axis of rotation parallel to the firing bore. The multiple firing chambers reciprocate rearward and forward while the assembly is indexed through a loading, firing, and ejection sequence. Ammunition cartridges are inserted into the forward end of the chambers and subsequently positioned against the rear of a barrel of the rifle for firing.

Provided herein is an automatic or semiautomatic rifle having a short-stroke action. While the stroke-length of the action in conventional weapons is typically 2 to 3 times the length of the cartridge it fires, the stroke-length of the presented rifle may be less than 1.5 times the length of the cartridge it fires. The reduced a stroke-length results in a reduced receiver size and overall weapon length as well as weigh savings. Such a short stroke-length is provided by the use of a divorced chamber that moves relative to the barrel of the rifle. In contrast to existing weapons having a firing chamber that is fixedly attached to the barrel, the firing chamber moves forward and rearward relative to a rearward end of the barrel. In such an arrangement, ammunition cartridges may be inserted in to a forward end of chamber and then positioned against a barrel of the rifle.

Improvements to firearms that load cartridges from a magazine and/or a clip are disclosed. Specifically, improvements to slide assemblies and bolt assemblies to depress a cartridge in a magazine and/or a clip are provided. Such improvements include a sloped bottom-facing surface of the slide assembly and/or bolt assembly. The sloped bottom-facing surface is sloped along the length of the portion that contacts a cartridge in the magazine and/or clip when the slide assembly and/or bolt assembly reciprocates.

Break barrel airguns are provided with a loading system that uses the cocking action of the break barrel type airgun to load projectiles from a magazine held by a magazine holder into a shuttle system that is positioned by the magazine holder during loader and moved to a position aligned with the barrel during firing. The loading system has a resilient barrier between the magazine holder and the shuttle that reduces the risks of loading errors caused by adhesion between the bolt and a pellet.

Cased telescoped ammunition firearm with headspace reduction

A weapon for firing cased telescoped (CT) ammunition includes a barrel. a chamber cavity aligned with the barrel, and a translating chamber member defining a chamber for holding a CT round for firing. The chamber member moves between a firing position in the chamber cavity and an ejection/loading position for ejecting a spent CT round and receiving a next CT round. A breech member closes a rear end of the chamber. A carrier performs a counter-recoil operation in which (1) the chamber member is moved from the ejection/loading position to the firing position with the next CT round therein, and (2) the breech is urged into a closed position against the next CT round in the chamber to remove headspace before the next CT round is fired from the weapon.

Cartridge extraction for a cased telescoped ammunition firearm

A firearm for firing cased telescoped (CT) ammunition cartridges that includes a split chamber configured to fully support a CT cartridge when it is fired, and that includes i) a dynamic rear chamber portion defining a pocket in a face of a bolt, and ii) a static front chamber portion that is integral to the barrel and separate from the bolt. A cartridge extraction mechanism engages the CT cartridge prior to the CT cartridge being fired, and holds the CT cartridge in the pocket in the bolt face as the bolt moves rearward to pull the CT cartridge out of the static front chamber portion and into an ejection position. An ejector is operable to eject the CT cartridge from the pocket in the face of the bolt when the CT cartridge reaches the ejection position.
