FIREARM BARREL TRUNNION

Apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed for use in or with firearms. A firearm barrel trunnion includes a rear portion shaped to couple to a receiver for a firearm. The trunnion includes a front portion shaped to couple to a handguard for the firearm and to support the handguard without the handguard contacting other components of the firearm. A bore is formed within the trunnion, and is shaped to receive a barrel for the firearm.

Trigger guard assemblies for firearms include a trigger guard movable between a closed positon; and an open position providing greater access to a trigger bow of the firearm. The trigger guard assemblies also include a post that engages the trigger guard, and is movable in relation to the trigger guard between a retracted position and an extended position. When in the retracted position, the post does not interfere with movement of the trigger guard between the open and closed positions. When in the extended position, the post interferes with movement of the trigger guard between the open and closed positions, and exerts a lateral force on the firearm to further secure the trigger guard to the firearm.

The distal portion may have a magazine well to removably receive a box magazine. The magazine well may have at least one fore stop and at least one aft stop, the at least one fore stop and the at least one aft stop shaped to prevent the box magazine from passing beyond the upper portion of the magazine well unit. At least one of the fore stop or the aft stop may have an upper portion region having a surface for engaging the firearm.

A firearm with manually operated bolt release includes a receiver defining a longitudinally-extending cavity, a barrel, and a bolt slideably mounted in the receiver for reciprocating axial movement between a forward closed breech position in battery with the barrel and a rearward open breech position. A recoil spring biases the bolt forward towards the closed breech position. A manually actuated bolt release is pivotably mounted in the firearm and movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position. The bolt release includes a locking portion configured to selectively engage a locking recess formed on the bolt for holding the bolt in the open breech position, and disengage the locking recess for releasing the bolt to reclose the breech. In one embodiment, the bolt may be automatically disengaged from the bolt release by retracting the bolt a second time.

It further includes a recoil plate that absorbs forces generated by the slide during firing. Recoil forces are reduced by lowering the firearm's center of mass and by aligning a recoiling mass with the user's arm and trigger finger. The firearm configuration further includes a locking block which prevents rotational and lateral movement of the barrel upon firing.

An intrinsically safe firearm may include a handle and a frame connected by a pivot pin. One or more latches of the firearm can temporarily fix the firearm in a stowed orientation or a deployed orientation. In the deployed orientation, a magazine of the firearm can be removed from the handle; a slide of the firearm can be removed from the frame; a magazine safety allows a firing pin to strike a primer of a round in the firearm; and a trigger of the firearm is accessible to discharge the round in the firearm. In the stowed orientation, the magazine is not removable from the handle; the slide is not removable from the frame; the magazine safety prevents the firing pin from striking the primer; and the trigger of the firearm is not accessible.
