LAUNCHED AIR VEHICLE SYSTEM
A launch canister for ejection from a submerged launch platform, the launch canister being adapted for ejection in a direction substantially along a first axis of the launch canister and comprising: an enclosure for carrying a UAV; a nose cap releasably located in a launch opening at a forward end of the launch canister; a launch mechanism for driving a UAV carried in the enclosure out of the launch canister through the launch opening in a direction substantially along said first axis; and a water surface sensor for detecting when the nose cap of the canister broaches the surface of the water; wherein the launch canister is configured to, on the water surface sensor detecting that the nose cap of the canister has broached the surface of the water, immediately release the nose cap and initiate the launch mechanism to drive a UAV carried in the enclosure out of the launch canister through the launch opening.
Autonomous vessel for unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) carrier operations
An autonomous vessel comprises a hull. The hull contains a plurality of subsystems. The subsystems comprise a sensor subsystem configured to sense potential target information regarding a potential target, a database subsystem configured to store target characterization information, a processing subsystem coupled to the sensing subsystem and to the database subsystem, and an ordnance subsystem. The processing subsystem is configured to process the potential target information according to the target characterization information to confirm the potential target as being a confirmed target. The ordnance subsystem comprises an ordnance magazine configured to store ordnance, the ordnance deliverable by an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV). The ordnance is deployable against the confirmed target.
IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO CARRYING A MUNITION ON A MUNITION LAUNCHER PLATFORM
In a method of carrying a munition on a munition launcher platform, the munition launcher platform is provided with a data tag activator and a data tag reader. A munition is attached to the munition launcher platform, the munition being provided with a data tag. An activation signal is transmitted from the data tag activator to the data tag. As a result of receiving the activation signal, the data tag returns a data response to the data tag reader. The receiving of the data response provides the munition launcher platform with an indication that the munition is still attached to the munition launcher platform.

LAUNCHING AERIAL DEVICES
A launch container apparatus for ejection from a submerged launch platform and a method for ejecting a launch container apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus comprises an enclosure for carrying an unmanned aerial device and a surfacing sensor configured to generate a control signal in response to detection of surfacing of the launch container apparatus. Petals are configured to provide buoyancy and stabilization for the launch container apparatus are also provided. A petal drive mechanism moves, in response to the control signal, the petals from a folded position to an expanded position.

Payload launch system and method
A payload launch system includes a launch tube, payload, rocket tube, pressurized motor assembly, and control system. The motor assembly has a launch actuator and an accumulator housing containing compressed gas. The accumulator housing defines a vent opening having a closure. The control system transmits an actuation signal to the actuator in response to a launch request signal to open the closure and cause a discharge of pressure into the launch tube. This causes the rocket tube to launch from the launch tube to a threshold altitude in a single gaseous thrust phase. A method includes deploying a launch system, transmitting a launch actuation signal to the launch actuator via a control system, and opening a closure to allow compressed gas to enter the launch tube, thereby launching the rocket tube from the launch tube to a threshold altitude in the single gaseous thrust phase.
