Nosecone inverted F antenna for S-band telemetry

An inverted F antenna for use in a projectile includes a ground plane and a radiating element oriented orthogonal to the ground plane and centered on the ground plane. The radiating element includes a ground stub trace having a relatively thick width, a meandering trace with a vertical orientation and a relatively high ground clearance and a feed trace having a tapered head.

Ballistic guidance system

Techniques are provided for guiding a projectile. A methodology implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes generating a roll command based on a roll angle obtained from a steering map that causes a change in range and cross range of the projectile that results in a ground motion closest to a desired ground motion. The method also includes calculating a remaining maximum maneuver distance for the projectile, over a time period extending from the current time of flight to the end of flight. The calculation is based on integration a series of maximum maneuvers, obtained from the steering map, at time intervals within the time period. The method further includes generating a lift command for the projectile based on: distance between the target location and an impact point prediction (IPP) calculated at the current time of flight; an error estimate of the IPP; and the remaining maximum maneuver distance.

FIREARM ELECTRONIC SYSTEM

Man portable weapons include integrated electronics that calculate orientation and movement in addition to providing that data to a user's heads-up displays (HUD) as well as to group and area networks. By passing data to a HUD, the user is able to see, virtually, the flight path, point of impact and other ballistic data as well as data representing the condition and performance of the weapon for any rounds fired. The HUD also displays the relative position of other members of the team, last known enemy area of operation and other useful parameters from the man portable weapons of the other team members through the network. The electronics may be integrated within the main components of any suitable man portable weapon in a non-intrusive way as to have no effect on the firing mechanism of the small arm when it is fully assembled.

Glide trajectory optimization for aerospace vehicles

A computer implemented method is provided for in-flight trajectory steering a vehicle by an optimal path to a destination. This includes incorporating physical constants; setting initial angle of attack (AoA) and initial AoA rate; incrementing flight AoA; measuring operation parameters; establishing a flight trajectory; calculating an optimal trajectory; comparing flight trajectories; and commanding flight control. The physical constants include gravity and atmospheric conditions. The flight AoA increments from the initial AoA and any prior increments. The operation parameters of the vehicle include pressure, velocity and flight path angle. The flight trajectory denotes the vehicle's path to its destination based on the operation parameters using the physical constants. The optimal trajectory is based on with altitude and velocity of the vehicle. The flight trajectory is compared to the optimal trajectory as a steering correction by altering the flight AoA. The vehicle's flight control executes the steering correction at the flight AoA.

System and method for stores communications

A system for transferring power and/or data between a host and a store over a single-wire umbilical cable is herein described. The system comprises a host-store interface configured to allow the transfer of both power and data between the host and a store in operative communication therewith. The store comprises a microcontroller and memory operatively coupled thereto, allowing the microcontroller to be powered on and to receive and store data sent by the host in its memory through a single-wire without requiring additional electronic systems that the store may comprise to also be powered on. This data may later be incorporated into pre-programmed systems onboard the store at full power-on, thereby enabling the reprogramming of the store without powering it on prior to launch.

APPARATUS FOR TRANSLATION OF GPS SIGNALS TO FACILITATE ASSET TRACKING

A method for facilitating real time tracking of an airborne asset via downlink of GPS signals that are usable for determining asset location information from the asset to a ground station may include receiving a first GPS signal and a second GPS signal at a device disposed on the airborne asset and combining the first and second GPS signals to form combined signal responsive to filtration and amplification of the first and second GPS signals. The method may further include employing an overlay analog translation to convert the combined signal into a composite signal at a different frequency than the combined signal, generating a pilot carrier frequency for association with the composite signal, and amplifying the composite signal prior to transmission via the downlink from the airborne asset to the ground station. The pilot carrier frequency and amplitude may be adjustable.

A Guidance Method and System

A method for guiding a weapon to a target, the method comprising: obtaining a required impact vector for the weapon at the target, obtaining a line of sight (LOS) vector from the weapon to the target; determining a velocity vector of the weapon; defining a guidance plane, the guidance plane being a plane in which both the impact vector and the LOS vector lie; generating guidance commands for the weapon to place the velocity vector of the weapon in the guidance plane with a velocity perpendicular to the guidance plane of zero.
