Ballistic-resistant molded article
The present invention provides process for producing a ballistic-resistant molded article, which molded article comprises: i) a plurality of layers of unidirectionally aligned polyolefin fibers, which layers are substantially absent a bonding matrix; and ii) a plurality of layers of adhesive, and which process comprises: a) providing a plurality of precursor sheets, each of said precursor sheets comprising i) at least one layer of unidirectionally aligned polyolefin fibers which layer is substantially absent a bonding matrix, and ii) at least one layer of adhesive; b) stacking said precursor sheets to form a stack, wherein the total amount of adhesive in the stack is from 5.0 to 12.0 wt. % based on the total weight of the stack; c) pressing the stack produced in step b) at a temperature of from 1 to 30° C. below the melting point of the polyolefin fibers and at a pressure of at least 8 MPa; and d) cooling the pressed stack produced in step c) to at least 50° C. below the melting point of the polyolefin fibers while maintaining pressure.
Impact-resistant lightweight polymeric laminates
Bonded polymeric film laminates comprising core polymer film layers individually coated on at least one side with a heat fusible polymer layer and fusion bonded together by the application of heat and pressure at a temperature at which each heat fusible polymer coating bonds together adjacent core polymer film layers, where the melting point or softening temperature of the heat fusible polymer is at least 3° C. below that of the core layer polymer, and the lamination temperature is at or above the melting point or softening temperature of the heat fusible coating polymer, where the heat fusible polymer coating layers are thinner than the core polymer film layers, where the coated core polymer film layers are uniaxially stretched by 2× to 40×, and the stretched coated core polymer film layers are cross-plied. Methods for forming the laminates, coated films from which the laminates are formed, and articles formed from the laminates are also disclosed.
BALLISTIC COMPOSITION, BALLISTIC ASSEMBLY, AND METHOD THEREFOR
A ballistic composition, ballistic assembly, and method for fabricating the ballistic assembly. The ballistic composition comprises a curable material, and a particulate component. The particulate component is adapted to impose a tortuous path on a projectile. The particulate component includes polymer, ceramic, metal, or any combination thereof.
ARMOR ASSEMBLY WITH A PERFORATED LAYER
An armor assembly configured to be mounted to a vehicle to protect it from an expected explosion. The armor assembly comprises at least two layers, each contacting an adjacent one of said layers. One of said layers is a perforated layer and another one is a covering layer. The perforated layer is made of a material of a first density, and having a first surface configured to face towards the vehicle when the armor assembly is mounted thereto, and a second surface opposite thereto. The perforated layer is formed with a plurality of holes each having an opening at least at said second surface. The covering layer is made of a material of a second density which is greater than the first density and is configured to be permanently bent by said explosion into the openings, at opening covering portions of the covering layer, to such a depth as to restrict sliding movement at least between the two layers.
AIRCRAFT STRUCTURAL, ANTI-BALLISTIC FLOOR PANEL
There is provided an anti-ballistic aerospace structure, said structure comprising a strike layer defining an outwardly facing surface and an opposing capture layer defining an inwardly facing surface and an intermediate structural layer arranged between the strike layer and capture layer, wherein the intermediate structural layer is spaced relative to the strike layer to define a space between the intermediate structural layer and the strike layer, said space comprising one or more reinforcement elements, and wherein the strike layer is formed of a fiber reinforced plastic laminate comprising at least one metallic layer.
ARMOR PLATING MADE OF FINE-GRAIN BORON CARBIDE AND SILICON CARBIDE
An antiballistic armor-plating component, includes a ceramic body made of a material comprising, as percentages by volume, between 35% and 55% of silicon carbide, between 20% and 50% of boron carbide, between 15% and 35% of a metallic silicon phase or of a metallic phase including silicon.
Protective shields
Protective shields configured to prevent projection against projectiles, such as during excavating and/or mining operations, are provided. The protective shields include a base layer comprising one or more transparent polycarbonate layers, a sacrificial polycarbonate layer comprising a transparent polycarbonate, and an air gap positioned directly between at least a portion of the base layer and the sacrificial polycarbonate layer. The sacrificial polycarbonate layer is directly or indirectly attached to the base layer in a manner to provide the air gap positioned between the base layer and the sacrificial polycarbonate layer.
POROUS BALLISTIC ARMOR
An article includes a body having a first phase comprising alpha silicon carbide and pores contained in the body; the pores having a mean spacing distance of at least 205 microns and not greater than 300. The body can have a ballistic.
INSERTS HAVING BALLISTIC PROTECTION LAYER
An insert for structurally reinforcing a cavity of a structural member, wherein the insert includes a ballistic material to prevent penetration of the structural member by flying debris, fragmentation, or both.
Security barrier for providing protection in public space
The present invention concerns a security barrier for providing protection in a public space or the like, said barrier comprising a mineral wool assembly comprising at least one mineral wool element having an outer liquid impermeable covering and wherein the at least one mineral wool element is adapted for being filled with a liquid. The invention further comprises a method of manufacturing such security barrier and a method of preparing the security barrier for providing protection in a public space.
