Composite enclosure for explosive reactive armor and methods of manufacturing the same

An explosive reactive armor (ERA) enclosure for an ERA tile includes a bottom and a plurality of sidewalls extending from the bottom, where the plurality of sidewalls are continuous with each other and with the bottom so as to define an internal volume. The plurality of sidewalls are formed from a fiber-reinforced composite material having a plurality of plies of fiber sheet material. Additionally, a sidewall seam defined by abutting edges of the first ply is offset from a sidewall seam defined by abutting edges of the second ply. Methods of manufacturing ERA enclosures, including applying wrap layers and forming attachment structures for securing the fiber-reinforced composite ERA enclosure to an armor element, are also described. The composite enclosure is inexpensive and lightweight and improves the dynamic capabilities of armored vehicles using such ERA tiles.

Cabin assembly

A vehicle includes a frame, a series of tractive assemblies coupled to the frame, a cabin, and a mount. The mount includes a boss coupled to the cabin, a first bracket pivotably coupled to the boss, a second bracket coupled to the frame, and a first isolator and a second isolator extending between the first bracket and the second bracket and coupling the first bracket to the second bracket.

OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR A MAGAZINE

An overpressure protection system (30) for a magazine (10) for storing explosive materials. The magazine (10) comprises a wall (12) which defines an internal chamber (14) for housing the explosive materials, with a first aperture (20) defined in the wall (12). The overpressure protection system (30) is configured to close the first aperture (20). The system (30) comprises a burst disc diaphragm (32) for covering the first aperture (20), and a protective cover (34) for locating outside of the chamber (14) and over the burst disc diaphragm (32). The protective cover (34) is spaced apart from the burst disc diaphragm (32) to form a cavity (38) with an opening (36) for venting fluid from the cavity (38).

ARMOR ASSEMBLY WITH A PERFORATED LAYER

An armor assembly configured to be mounted to a vehicle to protect it from an expected explosion. The armor assembly comprises at least two layers, each contacting an adjacent one of said layers. One of said layers is a perforated layer and another one is a covering layer. The perforated layer is made of a material of a first density, and having a first surface configured to face towards the vehicle when the armor assembly is mounted thereto, and a second surface opposite thereto. The perforated layer is formed with a plurality of holes each having an opening at least at said second surface. The covering layer is made of a material of a second density which is greater than the first density and is configured to be permanently bent by said explosion into the openings, at opening covering portions of the covering layer, to such a depth as to restrict sliding movement at least between the two layers.

Embodiments of the present systems and apparatus may provide vehicle armor materials and systems that generate electricity from impact and blast energy. For example, in an embodiment, a protective apparatus may comprise a layer of armor and a layer comprising a plurality of electrical generating devices abutting the layer of armor and configured so that energy applied to the layer of armor is transferred to the plurality of electrical generating devices causing the plurality of electrical generating device to generate electrical energy.

MILITARY VEHICLE

A military vehicle includes a chassis, an axle, a suspension system, and a driveline. The chassis includes a passenger capsule, a front module coupled to a front end of the passenger capsule, and a rear module coupled to a rear end of the passenger capsule. The axle is supported by the rear module. The suspension system is positioned between the rear module and the axle. The suspension system includes a first gas spring, a second gas spring, a first damper, and a second damper. The first damper and the second damper are cross-plumbed to provide a fluid body roll control function. The driveline is configured to drive the axle. The driveline includes a component having a housing that functions as a structural component of the rear module. The first gas spring, the second gas spring, the first damper, and the second damper are directly coupled to the housing.
