A method includes determining a perforation tunnel geometry of a perforation tunnel in a solid sample, the perforation tunnel created by activating a shaped charge in proximity to the solid sample. The method also includes performing a first flow test on the solid sample and creating an analog aperture having an aperture geometry in a solid sample analog of the solid sample, wherein the aperture geometry and the perforation tunnel geometry satisfies a similarity threshold. The method also includes performing a second flow test on the solid sample analog and determining a shaped charge effect based on a comparison between a second flow test result and a first flow test result.

A shaped charge closure member for encapsulating a slotted shaped charge is described. The closure member includes a body having a closed upper portion, and a lower portion opposite the upper portion. The closure member has first and second side walls, a front wall, and a back wall. Each wall tapers from the lower portion to the upper portion. A skirt having a substantially rectangular cross-section extends vertically away from each of the walls, at the lower portion of the body. The skirt engages with an open portion of a slotted shaped charge case, thereby forming an encapsulated slotted shaped charge. The encapsulated slotted shaped charge may be used in an exposed perforating gun system.

Amorphous shaped charge component and manufacture

An amorphous-based material component may be incorporated into a liner for a shaped charge used in perforating a wellbore casing. Other components of the shaped charge and/or perforating gun that accommodates the shaped charge may be of amorphous-based materials. Further, the liner and other components of the shaped charge may be manufactured by way of three dimensional printing. Indeed, a multi-material three dimensional print application may be utilized to form shaped charge components simultaneously along with an entire perforating gun system.
