INTEGRATED PROPULSION AND WARHEAD SYSTEM FOR AN ARTILLERY ROUND
20220128341 · 2022-04-28 ·

An integrated propulsion and warhead system for an artillery round includes a propulsion, such as a solid rocket motor and/or an air-breathing jet engine, and an annular explosive concentrically arranged around at least a portion of the propulsion system. The integrated propulsion and warhead system is included in a propulsion section of the artillery round so that space in an adjacent guidance section is increased and the space allocation for the propulsion system and annular explosive is optimized.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING THE AIM OF A WEAPON STATION, FIRING A POINT-DETONATING OR AN AIR-BURST PROJECTILE
20220128336 · 2022-04-28 · ·

The method and apparatus for a remote weapon station or incorporated into manually-aimed weapons. The methodology requires use of a muzzle velocity sensor that refines the aiming of the second and subsequent fires or volleys fired from weapon systems. When firing the first volley a weapon uses an estimated velocity and, at firing, the muzzle velocity of a projectile is measured. When firing the second volley a weapon's fire control calculates an aiming point using the measured velocity of the first volley.

SUB-CALIBER PROJECTILE AND METHOD OF NEUTRALIZING A TARGET USING SUCH A PROJECTILE

A sub-caliber projectile of the kinetic energy type comprising a perforating rod surrounded by a sabot made of light material and allowing the projectile to be fired from a weapon, the rod being extended by a stabilizing tail. The tail is connected to the rod by a connection means that can be broken, the breaking being initiated by a control means integral with the projectile. The control means comprises a timing module which is connected to a programming interface and which is programmed before firing or during firing so as to ensure the breaking of the connection means at a reference distance relative to a target which is to be neutralized. The invention also relates to a method of neutralizing a target using such a sub-caliber projectile.

Releasable erosion enhancing mechanism

Embodiments are directed to a vented torque release device including hollow fuze well having a proximal end, a distal end, an inner surface, and an outer surface. A wall is defined by the inner surface and the outer surface. A plurality of helical grooves are axially spaced at equal distance about the outer surface.

Projectile with selectable angle of attack

A projectile with selectable angle of attack for increased impact on a target includes an active charge and controllable initiation device for initiation of the active charge, wherein the projectile also includes at least one side-acting impulse motor for tilting the projectile relative to its trajectory from a substantially vertical position, in which the front face of the projectile is directed toward the target, into a more horizontal position, in which the outer surface of the projectile is directed toward the target.

DYNAMIC HARDENED TARGET LAYER AND VOID DETECTOR SENSOR FOR USE WITH A WARHEAD OR PROJECTILE PENETRATOR

Hardened target sensors and systems are described herein. An example system includes a projectile defining an ogive, a body, and a base. The body of the projectile is arranged between the ogive and the base. The system includes a sensor assembly including a nose member and a plurality of strain gauges. The nose member defines a nose portion, a shaft, portion, and a threaded portion. The strain gauges are attached to the shaft portion. The system includes a shroud member, which is mechanically coupled with the sensor assembly and the body. The system further includes a smart fuze arranged within the body. The smart fuze is operably coupled to the strain gauges. The strain gauges measure the compression/tension of the shaft portion, which is part of the nose member. The load measured by the strain gauges can be used to detect hardened target layers and/or voids.
