CAP-BASED HEAT-MITIGATING NOSE INSERT FOR A PROJECTILE AND A PROJECTILE CONTAINING THE SAME
Techniques and architecture are disclosed for a nose insert for use in a projectile. The nose insert includes a polymer nose element and a metal cap. The polymer nose element includes a rear shank portion and a tapered head portion. Disposed onto the tapered head portion of the polymer nose is the metal cap. The metal includes an outer curved portion that terminates at a forward end in a meplat. In some embodiments, the metal cap prevents deformation of the polymer nose element caused by high stagnation temperatures experienced by the projectile during flight. In some other embodiments, the metal cap includes a locking ridge. The locking ridge is disposed on an inner surface of the metal cap component and interfaces with an outer surface of the tapered head portion of the polymer nose element.
Rear-deploying mechanical broadhead
Rear-deploying mechanical broadheads may be provided having stationary blades that open only through movement of a drive pin/key secured within a slot or chamber in the body of the broadhead. The drive pin/key may act as bleeder blades, thereby forming a mechanical broadhead with bleeder blades. The stationary blades may be pinned to the tip of the broadhead through blade pins, thereby keeping the blades stationary during flight toward a target and lessening the likelihood that the broadhead may be errant in its movement toward a target.

Firearm projectile
A projectile having a projectile body that includes a front end and a rear end. A cavity in the rear end of the projectile body. An internal core in the cavity. The internal core including a front end and a rear end. The front end of the internal core inserted towards the front end of the projectile body.
EXTENDED RANGE BULLET
A cartridge with an expanding bullet that has advantageous terminal effects over an extended range. The expanding bullet including a bullet body including a metal jacket extending from a tail portion to a nose portion and surrounding an interior solid core and defining a forward opening and interior cavity. A tip has an exterior surface substantially flush with an exterior surface of the metal jacket. The tip has a main portion forward of the opening and a tip retention portion that at least partially fills the interior cavity. In certain embodiments the tip retention portion includes one or more fluid entry facilitation means such as a fracture regions configured to, upon impact of the bullet with a target, fracture or deform to expose one or more fluid pathways into the interior cavity and to a forward facing interior surface for initiating expansion of the expanding bullet.
HEAT-MITIGATING NOSE INSERT FOR A PROJECTILE AND A PROJECTILE CONTAINING THE SAME
Techniques and devices are disclosed for a nose insert and a projectile that include a polymer nose element and a metal tip. The polymer nose element includes a tapered head portion and a first shank portion attached to the tapered head portion. The tapered head portion includes a cavity disposed therein. The first shank portion includes a first diameter smaller than a width of the tapered head portion adjacent to the first shank portion. The metal tip disposed in the tapered head portion of the polymer nose element and includes a tapered end and a second shank portion attached to the tapered end. The second shank portion having a second diameter smaller than a width of the tapered end adjacent to the second shank portion. The second shank portion being received in the cavity within the tapered head portion of the polymer nose element.

PROJECTILE
A cannon projectile having an elongated body with a plurality of elongated and circumferentially spaced segments. At least one tether is attached to at least one end of the segments to hold the segments together. A deployment device, when activated, enables the segments to deploy radially outwardly into a pattern controlled at least in part by the at least one tether using aerodynamic and inertial forces only.
CARTRIDGE WITH IMPROVED PENETRATION AND EXPANSION BULLET
A cartridge with component bullet has desirable penetration capabilities and controlled separation of components upon terminal impact. In embodiments of the invention, the cartridge comprises a component, a lead core, and a copper jacket. The lead jacket having a leading edge portion that exposes the cutaways. The component bullet may have a forward pointed ogive portion with cutaways spaced circumferentially.
