The present invention provides a metal injection molded ammunition cartridge comprising a metal injection molded bottom portion comprising a primer recess in communication with a primer flash hole that extends into a propellant chamber and a metal injection molded body extending form the metal injection molded bottom portion.

SABOT WITH BIONIC STRUCTURES

A sabot in which bionic structures are provided. The structures are generated or created by way of an additive manufacturing process during the manufacture of the sabot in a defined manner with respect to size, shape and/or volume and in a targeted manner with respect to the local and quantitative embedding in the sabot.

RIFLED AMMUNITION SYSTEM

Gun and ammunition solutions which permit the use of High Explosive (HE) rounds and Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) rounds in one weapon. A first system has a gun barrel chamber sized to receive the outer cases of both APFSDS and HE rounds. The chamber has a smooth rear section which abuts a front section having internal helical rifling. A HE round has an outer case with a length that is the same as the length of the smooth rear section of the barrel. A projectile held by the case has a rotating band on a rear end configured to engage the internal helical rifling in the chamber. A second system has a conventional smooth barrel and utilizes a HE round with an outer case having internal rifling in a forward section. A projectile held by the outer case has a circular band mounted to rotate about a rear end thereof to engage the internal rifling.

FIREARM BARREL

A firearm barrel has an elongated body defining a bore and defining a bore axis, the body defining a breech end and an opposed muzzle end, a chamber defined in the breech end and contiguous with the bore; the bore having an interior surface having a plurality of alternating lands and grooves, the grooves being surfaces separated from the bore axis by first radius, the lands being surfaces separated from the bore axis by second radius less than the first radius and the lands and grooves being straight elements parallel to the bore axis, such that no spin is imparted to a projectile propelled down the bore. The lands and grooves may extend from the chamber to the muzzle end. The bore may have a constant cross-sectional profile along its length.

MANEUVERING AEROMECHANICALY STABLE SABOT SYSTEM

An aeromechanically stable sabot system that includes a center of gravity that is placed forward of an aerodynamic center of the aeromechanically stable sabot system when in steady-state flight. By placing the center of gravity forwards of the aerodynamic center, the sabot system exhibits positive longitudinal and directional stability. To illustrate, the sabot system and/or portions thereof will return to stable flight after being disturbed in pitch (vertically or about a transverse horizontal axis) or yaw (side to side or about a vertical axis) when traveling horizontally.

Penetrator incorporating a core enclosed in a ductile sheath and manufacturing process for such a penetrator

A heavy metal penetrator with a high tungsten content incorporating a central part or core formed of an alloy comprising from 85% to 97% in mass of tungsten associated with additional metals and which is enclosed by a peripheral sheath made of a more ductile tungsten alloy than that of the core. The sheath of the penetrator is made of an alloy comprising 30% to 72% in mass of tungsten, the core comprising nodules of tungsten bound in a matrix of a gamma phase ?.sub.C associating tungsten with additional metals, the two gamma phases being continuously joined to one another with no transition zone.

FIREARM CARTRIDGE

A firearm cartridge has a case defining an interior chamber and having a case mouth, an elongated projectile having a forward end and a rear end, a sabot assembly having an exterior sized to be closely received in the case mouth, and defining an interior passage adapted to closely receive the projectile, and the projectile including a stabilizer at the rear end. The stabilizer may include fins. The projectile may include a circumferential groove at an intermediate portion between the forward end and rear end. The sabot assembly includes a mating feature adapted to engage the circumferential groove to limit axial motion of the projectile with respect to the sabot assembly. The projectile may define a plurality of circumferential grooves. The sabot assembly may include a plurality of mating features adapted to engage the circumferential grooves. The sabot assembly may include a plurality of elements arranged about the projectile.
