Air cannon with sabot system

An air cannon has a barrel and a sabot sized to fit within the barrel and configured to engage a projectile located within the barrel forward of the sabot. A flexible cord connects the sabot to a fixed location relative to the barrel. Forward motion of the sabot is decelerated by the cord after the sabot exits the forward end of the barrel, and the sabot is retained by the cord near the forward end of the barrel.

MUZZLELOADER SYSTEMS

Muzzleloader systems include a pre-packaged propellant charge and primer for providing efficient loading and unloading of the muzzleloader. The muzzleloader accepts in the breech end the propellant containment vessel that abuts against a constriction portion with a reduced diameter portion. The propellant containment vessel having an end portion with a tapered surface that conforms to the constriction portion surface. A projectile is inserted in the muzzle end and seats against the constriction portion. The propellant containment vessel may be received in a removable breech plug. The constriction portion may be part of the breech plug or a separate component secured in the barrel by way of the breech plug. The containment vessel further comprises a primer mechanism that may be integrated into the proximal end of the containment vessel.

FIN-STABILIZED SUB-CALIBER PROJECTILE THAT CAN BE FIRED FROM A RIFLED BARREL, AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF
20180216922 · 2018-08-02 · ·

A fin-stabilized sub-caliber projectile adapted to be fired from a rifled barrel, the projectile having a penetrator with a tail fin assembly, a sabot arranged on the penetrator and having at least two sabot segments circumferentially joined to one another that are separated from one another after leaving the barrel by centrifugal forces acting on the projectile during firing. The sabot includes a main body and a front guide flange that is adapted to be supported on an inner wall of the barrel and a rear guide flange arranged at an axial distance. A connecting section of the sabot is arranged between the front guide flange and the rear guide flange and has a smaller outer diameter than the front guide flange or the rear guide flange. The sabot and the penetrator are joined together in a positive manner in a region of the rear guide flange.

Low-observable projectile

A radar-absorbing material projectile system including a projectile with an outer layer of radar-absorbing material (RAM). A carrier or armature is disposed around the projectile, protecting the layer of RAM during the firing sequence. In some embodiments the carrier is a discarding carrier which falls away after firing, rendering the projectile low-observable with regard to radar detection due to the layer of RAM.

CARTRIDGE WITH INNER SURFACE GROOVES FOR A CONDUCTED ELECTRICAL WEAPON

A cartridge for a conducted electrical weapon may comprise a body having a first end opposite a second end and an outer surface opposite an inner surface. A projectile may be disposed within the body. The inner surface of the body may define a plurality of grooves extending from the first end of the body to a location within the body.

High Spin Projectile Apparatus Comprising Components Made by Additive Manufacture
20180154446 · 2018-06-07 ·

A method of making a projectile apparatus is provided that includes making one or components of the apparatus using an additive manufacture technique such as 3-D printing or laser-aided additive manufacture. The projectile apparatus can have a projectile, a propellant, and one or more optional components such as a wading, a sabot, and an intermediary device. The projectile can be fired through a barrel having a smooth bore. Additive manufacture methods can be used that involve forming components from superalloys having nanoparticles incorporated therein. The projectile apparatus can convert gas pressure or gas velocity into a high rate of projectile spin. The projectile has long-range accuracy due to a high or sustainable velocity and high rate of spin.

"PRELOADED SABOT SYSTEM"
20180100727 · 2018-04-12 ·

A sabot having an extended casing for containing propellant charge and a slotted top portion for securing a projectile. The propellant charge is ignited by gases that enter the lower portion of the sabot from a puncture developed by the mating of the sabot against a breech plug. The breech plug has a piercing component in the form of a sharpened forward edge to initiate puncture of the breech end of the sabot.

Ammunition system and ammunition for firearms
09903676 · 2018-02-27 · ·

An ammunition system and associated ammunition for firearms, particularly for muzzleloader firearms, having a predetermined amount of propellant charge housed in a casing, and a separate projectile having a sabot. The casing has a cap sealing the casing muzzle end such that the cap and the sabot provide seals to trap propellant gases within the barrel behind the projectile upon firing. The cap top end and sabot bottom end interlock in mechanical communication with one another upon firing allowing the projectile exiting the barrel muzzle end to be responsive to the barrel rifling. The barrel breech end has a chamber bushing for receiving the casing and a tapered muzzle end to prohibit the projectile from entering the casing.

A hollow tube projectile and launch cup system comprises a cylindrical hollow tube with an inwardly chamfered leading end and a plurality of elongate vents spaced evenly around a cylindrical wall. The elongate vents are configured to have a semicircular leading edge and an elliptical trailing edge. The trailing edge is configured to extend at an acute angle from an inner perimeter of the cylindrical wall to an outer perimeter thereof. The disclosed launch cup comprises an outwardly chamfered leading end and a plurality of elongate exterior ribs spaced evenly around an otherwise cylindrical wall. The ribs are configured to extend longitudinally from the leading end toward the trailing end and blend into an anterior skirt on the trailing end. The trailing end is configured in a receptacle aft for explosive propulsion and the leading end is configured in a receptacle fore to receive the hollow tube projectile therein.
