A firearm projectile has a rear section and a forward section spaced from the rear section. A collapsible spacer is positioned between the forward section and the rear section.

A radar-absorbing material projectile system including a projectile with an outer layer of radar-absorbing material (RAM). A carrier or armature is disposed around the projectile, protecting the layer of RAM during the firing sequence. In some embodiments the carrier is a discarding carrier which falls away after firing, rendering the projectile low-observable with regard to radar detection due to the layer of RAM.

Stepped sabots for projectiles are provided. One sabot includes a cylindrical tubular body and at least one stepped surface within the cylindrical tubular body. The stepped surface is configured for engaging at least one complementary surface on a projectile and the stepped surface forms a progressively narrower inner diameter of the cylindrical tubular body.

A ballistic sabot for adapting a payload to a launch device is disclosed. The ballistic sabot can include a support structure configured to be releasably coupled to a payload and to operably interface with a launch device. The launch device can be operable to launch the payload and the support structure on a ballistic trajectory. The support structure can be configured to retain and travel with the payload along the ballistic trajectory substantially beyond the launch device prior to release and separation from the payload.

A representative reverse-saboted sidearm system includes: a sidearm having a barrel assembly with an inner wall defining a longitudinally extending bore; and a round of reverse-saboted ammunition having a non-necked casing, a reverse sabot, and a projectile, the reverse sabot mounted at a discharge end of the casing with a distal end of the reverse sabot extending outwardly from the casing, the reverse sabot exhibiting a diameter corresponding to a diameter of the casing and defining a receiving passage aligned with a longitudinal centerline of the casing, the projectile being at least partially disposed within the receiving passage of the reverse sabot; the inner wall of the barrel assembly being configured to engage an exterior surface of the projectile to direct the projectile.

An ammunition system and associated ammunition for firearms, particularly for muzzleloader firearms, having a predetermined amount of propellant charge housed in a casing, and a separate projectile having a sabot. The casing has a cap sealing the casing muzzle end such that the cap and the sabot provide seals to trap propellant gases within the barrel behind the projectile upon firing. The cap top end and sabot bottom end interlock in mechanical communication with one another upon firing allowing the projectile exiting the barrel muzzle end to be responsive to the barrel rifling. The barrel breech end has a chamber bushing for receiving the casing and a tapered muzzle end to prohibit the projectile from entering the casing.

A bullet assembly comprising a bullet and a cup assembly, the cup assembly may have a ring portion for scraping the barrel of a muzzleloader. The cup assembly may be slidable on the bullet with an extended position and a contracted position, the contracted position having a greater diameter than the extended position. A contraction inhibiting member that requires shearing off of the member for contraction may be disposed on one of the components.

A device is provided for inhibiting pitch and yaw within a barrel bore of a gun-launched projectile having a nose and a boattail. The device includes an endcap, a cruciform and a plug. The endcap attaches to the boattail. The endcap includes a center cavity. The cruciform includes a central ring that engages around the endcap. The cruciform further includes a plurality of radial spokes. Each spoke extends from the ring and ends in a flange that engages the bore. The plug inserts into the ring and the cavity. After the projectile launches from the bore, the plug sheers away from the endcap, thereby causing the cruciform to separate from the endcap. Preferably, the endcap, cruciform and plug are composed of aluminum alloy.

A sabot assembly includes a housing defining an interior space and a plurality of projectiles and received in the interior space. The interior space is at least partially defined by a plurality of concavities, each of which is configured to receive a respective projectile. The housing is configured to separate and fall away once the sabot assembly is fired through a gun barrel, thereby releasing the projectiles from the interior space toward a target prior to impact of the sabot assembly with the target.
