IMAGING SEEKER FOR A SPIN-STABILIZED PROJECTILE
20190294182 · 2019-09-26 ·

Apparatus and associated methods relate to determining a course-correction signal for a spin-stabilized projectile based on a time sequence of images of a scene aligned with and obtained by a forward-looking imager coupled to the projectile. As the projectile rotates, the aligned scenes captured in the images obtained by the forward-looking imager are rotated. The rotation angle of each of the captured scenes corresponds to the spin angle of the projectile at the time of image exposure. Objects in the captured scenes will circle about a rotation center of the time-sequence images. The distances from a rotation center to the objects in the captured scenes, as well as the rotation angles of the captured scenes can be used to generate a course-correction signal so that the projectile can be guided to a target selected from the objects in the captured scene.

A weapon training system including a magnetic sensor system is described. The magnetic sensor system is insertable into or integrated with a round of an indirect firing weapon and includes at least one magnetic sensor and a microcontroller communicatively coupled to the at least one magnetic sensor. The microcontroller is configured to perform operations including receiving at least one proximity signal from the at least one magnetic sensor indicating a proximity of at least one magnet of at least one charge to the at least one magnetic sensor, determining, based on the at least one proximity signal, that the at least one charge is removably attached to the round, generating an output signal indicating that the at least one charge is removably attached to the round, and wirelessly transmitting the output signal to an electronic device.

Enhanced performance inertial measurement unit (IMU) system and method for error, offset, or drift correction or prevention

Inertial measurement units (IMUs) and methods with adaptations to eliminate or minimize sensor error, offset, or bias shift are presented. More particularly, the IMUs and methods for gun-fired projectiles herein are particularly adapted to accurately measure forces and to prevent or minimize the error, offset, or bias shift associated with events exhibiting high g shock, and/or high levels of vibration, and/or rotation. Even more particularly, the IMUs and methods herein utilize novel IMU packaging adapted to prevent or minimize sensor error, offset, or bias shift, and recalibration adaptations and methods adapted to correct or reset the error, offset, or bias shift from such an event. The IMUs are adapted to provide accurate measurements prior to, during and after such event, and to provide continuous accurate measurements during flight of gun-fired projectiles.

Aerospike rocket motor assembly

A motor assembly is provided for use with projectiles, such as munitions, having relatively low length to diameter ratios. The motor assembly has an aerospike nozzle and a casing disposed about the aerospike nozzle, where interior aerospike volume contains propellant and where walls of both the cowl of the casing and of the aerospike nozzle jointly define a combustion chamber.

81mm increased lethality projectile

A mortar ammunition round which contains at least three fragment producing regions covered by a threadably removable aluminum cowling. Detachment of the cowling provides access to several of the fragment producing regions which are located on a removable cup device. A different cup device may then be selectively inserted and the cowling replaced, forming a new mortar round of different select performance capabilities.
