Primer adapter assemblies have a body having a cylindrical exterior sidewall adapted to be closely received in a chamber having a chamber diameter, the body defining a central passage including a cylindrical aft portion adapted to closely receive a primer having a primer diameter greater than or equal to the chamber diameter, the body having an aft surface, and a malleable skirt extending aft of the aft surface and defining an installation aperture, the malleable skirt being operable to deform inward to form an opening having a diameter less than the primer diameter, such that a primer in the cylindrical aft portion of the central passage is retained. The skirt may have a tapered cross-section. The skirt may encircle the central passage. The skirt may be concentric with the central passage. The body may include a flange defining the aft surface and having a diameter greater than the chamber diameter.

The present disclosure provides a high explosive firing mechanism. The high explosive firing mechanism may comprise a housing comprising a firing pin tube having a primer inlet. The high explosive firing mechanism may further comprise a firing pin disposed within the firing pin tube, the firing pin comprising a nub. The nub may partially extend into the primer inlet.

The present invention provides a two piece and a three piece primer insert for ammunition piece. Each of the individual pieces may be formed by punching, pressing, stamping, molding, milling, coining, or by additive manufacturing. The individual pieces may be joined by clinching, pressing welding soldering, sintering, adhesive gluing, staking, and iterative addition by forming one piece into another piece.

Modular cartridges are disclosed that can be initially assembled, disassembled, and reprocessed by hand. The cartridge case is suitable for use with a variety of projectile designs and weights and for use with a range of propellant amounts and primer types. The variety of projectiles and range of propelling forces permits the present invention to provide cartridges for all types of uses, including indoor and outdoor target shooting, training, non-lethal self-protection, and lethal uses.
