A turbine rotor includes a disc with cavities, a plurality of blades, each with a root received in one of the cavities, and an axial retention system including a first series and a second series of strips circumferentially distributed around an axis of the rotor, the first and the second series being axially superimposed and arranged such that at least two strips circumferentially adjacent to the first series are axially superimposed on a strip of the second series and each strip of the first and second series is arranged opposite a cavity of the disc so as to axially block the root of a blade.
COMPRESSION TOOL AND METHOD OF FORMING GAS TURBINE ENGINE COMPONENTS
An assembly for forming a gas turbine engine according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a layup tool including a main body extending along a longitudinal axis and a flange extending radially from the main body, the flange defining an edge face slopes towards the main body to an axial face. At least one compression tool has a tool body having a first tool section and a second tool section extending transversely from the first tool section. The first tool section is translatable along a retention member in a first direction substantially perpendicular to the edge face such that relative movement causes the second tool section to apply a first compressive force on a composite article trapped between the axial face of the flange and the second tool section. A method of forming a gas turbine engine component is also disclosed.
Thermal Barrier Coating
A coated substrate has a substrate and a coating system having one or more ceramic layers. At least a first layer of one of the one or more ceramic layers is a columnar layer having as-deposited columns and intercolumn gaps. The intercolumn gaps have a mean width at least one of: at least 4.0 micrometers; and at least 1.5% of a thickness of said first layer.
Component protected by an environmental barrier
A component includes a substrate at least a portion of which adjacent to a surface of the substrate is made of a material including silicon; a bond coat located on the surface of the substrate and including silicon, an environmental barrier which includes an outer layer of ceramic material covering the bond coat, wherein the environmental barrier further includes a self-healing inner layer located between the bond coat and the outer layer, the inner layer including a matrix in which silico-forming particles are dispersed, these particles being capable of generating a matrix crack healing phase in the presence of oxygen.
CMC nozzle with interlocking mechanical joint and fabrication
A nozzle including a vane and a band, each having defined therein interlocking features. The vane and the band are each formed of a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) including reinforcing fibers embedded in a matrix. The vane and the band include one or more interlocking features. The nozzle further including an interlocking mechanical joint joining the vane and the band to one another. Methods are also provided for joining the vane and the band at the interlocking features to form an interlocking mechanical joint.
Methods for fabricating protective coating systems for gas turbine engine applications
Methods for fabricating protective coating systems for gas turbine engine applications are provided. An exemplary method of applying a protective coating to a substrate includes the steps of providing a substrate formed of a ceramic matrix composite material, forming a first coating layer directly on to the substrate and comprising an oxygen barrier material, a compliance material, or a bonding material and forming a second coating layer directly on to the first coating layer and comprising a thermal barrier material. The method optionally includes forming a third coating layer partially directly on to the second coating layer and partially within at least some of the plurality of pores of the second coating layer.
Slotted ceramic coating with a reactive phase coating disposed thereon for improved CMAS resistance and methods of forming the same
A coated component including a slotted ceramic coating with a reactive phase coating disposed thereon for improved resistance to environmental contaminant compositions, along with methods of its formation, is provided. The coated component may include a substrate defining a surface, a ceramic coating disposed on the surface of the substrate, and a reactive phase coating disposed on the layer of environmental contaminant compositions. The ceramic coating includes a plurality of slots disposed in the ceramic coating forming segments of ceramic coating material.
CMC vane mate face flange
A vane arc segment includes a continuous airfoil piece that defines first and second platforms and an airfoil section that extends between the first and second platforms. The airfoil section has a pressure side and a suction side. The first platform defines axially-sloped suction and pressure side circumferential mate faces, first and second axial sides, a gaspath side, a non-gaspath side, and a flange that projects from the non-gaspath side. The flange extends along at least a portion the axially-sloped suction side circumferential mate face.
Vane assembly with integrated nozzle tube
A vane assembly includes an airfoil fairing that has first and second fairing platforms and a hollow airfoil section that extends there between. A spar has a spar leg that extends through the hollow airfoil section. The spar leg has a through-passage and an end portion that protrudes from the second fairing platform. A support is secured with the end portion of the spar leg. The support has a platform that includes first and second sides, an opening that extends between the first and second sides, and a nozzle tube that extends from the second side. The first side is adjacent the second fairing platform. The end portion of the spar leg is disposed in the opening so as to fluidly connect the through-passage with the nozzle tube.
Airfoil assembly with fiber-reinforced composite rings and toothed exit slot
An airfoil assembly includes first and second fiber-reinforced composite airfoil rings that each have inner and outer platform sections, a suction side wall extending between the inner and outer platforms, a pressure side wall extending between the inner and outer platforms, and suction and pressure side mate faces along, respectively, edges of the suction and pressure side walls. The suction side mate face of the first fiber-reinforced composite airfoil ring and the pressure side mate face of the second fiber-reinforced composite airfoil ring mate at an interface to form an airfoil that circumscribes an internal cavity.
