Treatment process for a centrifugal compressor wheel to extend low-cycle fatigue life
A process for treating a centrifugal compressor wheel includes a combination of cold expansion of at least part of the bore of the wheel to induce residual compressive stresses in a region around the bore, and surface peening at least parts of the compressor wheel such as the back disk and portions of the blades.
Abrasive coating for high-temperature mechanical systems
A system may include a stationary component including: a substrate and an abradable layer on the substrate. The system also may include a rotating component including a tip and an abrasive coating system on the tip. The abrasive coating system may include a barrier layer and an abrasive material. The barrier layer may include at least one of hafnon, hafnium oxide, a blend of hafnium oxide and silicon or silicon oxide, a rare earth silicate, BSAS, stabilized zirconia, or stabilized hafnia. The blade track or blade shroud and the gas turbine blade are configured so the abrasive coating system contacts a portion of the abradable layer during rotation of the rotating component. The abradable layer is configured to be abraded by the contact by the abrasive coating system.
VANE MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL HAVING A THREE-DIMENSIONAL WOVEN FIBROUS REINFORCEMENT AND TWO-DIMENSIONAL WOVEN SKIN AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME
A blade for an aircraft gas turbine engine includes, in a longitudinal direction, a blade root, a shank and an aerofoil body, the aerofoil body extending in the longitudinal direction between the shank and a blade tip and in a transverse direction between a leading edge made of metal material and a trailing edge. The blade includes a blade core made of composite material having a three-dimensional woven fibrous reinforcement forming the blade root, the shank and a part of the aerofoil body. The blade also includes a skin made of composite material having a two-dimensional woven fibrous reinforcement surrounding the aerofoil body part of the blade core, the skin being interposed between the leading edge made of metal material and a front edge of the aerofoil body part of the blade core to define a thinned leading edge portion, the skin including one or more two-dimensional woven plies.
Internal airfoil component electroplating
Method and apparatus are provided for electroplating a surface area of an internal wall defining a cooling cavity present in a gas turbine engine airfoil component.
METHOD TO FABRICATE HIGH TEMPERATURE COMPOSITE WITH INTEGRATED BARRIER COATING
A method of fabricating a ceramic component includes hot pressing a composite component with a glass powder / filler cover mixture to form a consolidated glass-based coating on the composite component.
METHODS OF PROTECTING METALLIC COMPONENTS AGAINST CORROSION USING CHROMIUM-CONTAINING THIN FILMS
Protected aerospace components are provided and contain a nanolaminate film stack disposed on a surface of an aerospace component, where the nanolaminate film stack comprises alternating layers of a chromium-containing layer and a second deposited layer. The chromium-containing layer can include metallic chromium, chromium oxide, chromium nitride, chromium carbide, chromium silicide, or any combination thereof.
Post deposition heat treatment of bond coat and additional layers on ceramic or CMC substrate
In one example, a method for forming a coating system including a bond coat and an environmental barrier coating on a ceramic or CMC substrate, e.g., with an abradable coating on the environmental barrier coating. The method may include depositing a bond coat on a ceramic or ceramic matrix composite (CMC) substrate to form an as-deposited bond coat; heat treating the as-deposited bond coat following the deposition of the as-deposited bond coat on the substrate to form a heat treated bond coat; depositing an environment barrier coating (EBC) layer on the heat treated bond coat to form as deposited EBC layer; and heat treating the as-deposited EBC layer to form a heat treated EBC layer.
LIQUID ENHANCED LASER STRIPPING
A method for stripping ceramic from a component includes applying a liquid to a ceramic coating of an outer surface of the component. The method also includes directing a plurality of laser pulses at the ceramic coating with the applied liquid in order to spall the ceramic coating from the component.
AN ASSEMBLY OF TWO PARTS, ONE OF WHICH IS MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL, THE PARTS BEING ASSEMBLED TOGETHER BY A MECHANICAL ANCHOR ELEMENT
An assembly of two parts, one of the parts being made of composite material with fiber reinforcement obtained from a fiber preform made by three-dimensional weaving and densified with a matrix, the assembly including a mechanical anchor element secured to one of the parts and inserted inside the other part.
Erosion resistant and hydrophobic article
An erosion resistant and hydrophobic article includes a core that has a first hardness and a surface on the core. The surface includes a plurality of geometric features that have a second, greater hardness. The geometric features define a surface porosity by area percent and a corresponding surface solidity by area percent. The surface includes a ratio of the surface solidity divided by the surface porosity that is 1.8 or greater. The geometric features and the ratio establish the surface to be hydrophobic, and the second, greater hardness and the ratio establish an erosion rate of the surface that is equal to or less than an erosion rate of the core under identical erosion conditions.
