Provided is a method for arranging a protective coating for a thermally stressed structure, having at least one layer of alpha-aluminium oxide or of element-modified alpha-aluminium oxide, and wherein the protective coating is applied by reactive cathodic arc vaporization. A protective coating produced by the method and a component having a protective coating is also provided.

A method of forming a gas turbine engine component, the method including forming a plurality of cooling apertures in a preform structure of the component, the plurality of cooling apertures of the preform structure comprising a first cooling aperture and a second cooling aperture, wherein cross-sectional shapes of the first and second cooling apertures of the preform structure are different from one another, as measured in a same relative plane; and applying a coating to at least a portion of the preform structure to form the component, wherein a cross-sectional shape of the first and second cooling apertures of the component are approximately the same as one another, as measured in the same relative plane.
Generalized jet-effect and fluid-repellent corpus
The invention provides a method for computational fluid dynamics and apparatuses making enable an efficient implementation and use of an enhanced jet-effect, either the Coanda-jet-effect, the hydrophobic jet-effect, or the waving-jet-effect, triggered by specifically shaped corpuses and tunnels. The method is based on the approaches of the kinetic theory of matter, thermodynamics, and continuum mechanics, providing generalized equations of fluid motion. The method is applicable for slow-flowing as well as fast-flowing real compressible-extendable fluids and enables optimal design of convergent-divergent nozzles, providing for the most efficient jet-thrust. The method can be applied to airfoil shape optimization for bodies flying separately and in a multi-stage cascaded sequence. The method enables apparatuses for electricity harvesting from the fluid heat-energy, providing a positive net-efficiency. The method enables efficient water-harvesting from air. The method enables generators for practical-expedient power harvesting using constructive interference of waves due to the waving jet-effect.

A coating-substrate combination includes: a Ni-based superalloy substrate comprising, by weight percent: 2.0-5.1 Cr; 0.9-3.3 Mo; 3.9-9.8 W; 2.2-6.8 Ta; 5.4-6.5 Al; 1.8-12.8 Co; 2.8-5.8 Re; 2.8-7.2 Ru; and a coating comprising, exclusive of Pt group elements, by weight percent: Ni as a largest content; 5.8-9.3 Al; 4.4-25 Cr; 3.0-13.5 Co; up to 6.0 Ta, if any; up to 6.2 W, if any; up to 2.4 Mo, if any; 0.3-0.6 Hf; 0.1-0.4 Si; up to 0.6 Y, if any; up to 0.4 Zr, if any; up to 1.0 Re, if any.
NITRIDE PROTECTIVE COATINGS ON AEROSPACE COMPONENTS AND METHODS FOR MAKING THE SAME
Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to protective coatings on various substrates including aerospace components and methods for depositing the protective coatings. In one or more embodiments, an aerospace component has a protective coating containing an aluminum oxide layer disposed on a surface of the aerospace component, a metal-containing catalytic layer disposed on the aluminum oxide layer, and a boron nitride layer disposed on the metal-containing catalytic layer. The aerospace component contains a superalloy having at least nickel and aluminum. In some examples, the aerospace component is a turbine blade, a turbine vane, a support member, a frame, a rib, a fin, a pin fin, a fuel nozzle, a combustor liner, a combustor shield, a heat exchanger, a fuel line, a fuel valve, an internal cooling channel, or any combination thereof.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING
An environmental barrier coating includes a barrier layer which includes a matrix, diffusive particles, and gettering particles; and a calcium-magnesia alumina-silicate (CMAS)-resistant component. The CMAS-resistant component includes hafnium silicate and a rare earth hafnate. An article and a method of fabricating an article are also disclosed.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING
An environmental barrier coating includes a barrier layer which includes a matrix, diffusive particles, and gettering particles; and a calcium-magnesia alumina-silicate (CMAS)-resistant component. The CMAS-resistant component includes hafnium silicate and a rare earth hafnate. An article and a method of fabricating an article are also disclosed.
NON-INVASIVE QUANTITATIVE MULTILAYER ASSESSMENT METHOD AND RESULTING MULTILAYER COMPONENT
A system for analyzing layer thickness of a multilayer component is provided. The system includes: an opening forming device configured to create an opening having a predefined geometry partially into the multilayer component at a selected location on a surface of the multilayer component, where the multilayer component includes a plurality of material layers including a substrate and a bond coat and the opening exposes each of the plurality of material layers, and an imaging device configured to create an image of the exposed plurality of material layers in the opening. The system is configured to calculate at least a thickness of the bond coat of the exposed plurality of material layers from the image and based on the predefined geometry of the opening. The system may also include a repairing device configured to repair the opening, allowing the multilayer component to be used for an intended purpose.
Thermal barrier coating with high corrosion resistance
Disclosed is a thermal barrier coating system for components of a turbomachine, especially for high temperature-stressed or hot gas-stressed components of a turbomachine, comprising a ceramic coating of fully or partially stabilized zirconium oxide, and an oxide cover coating which comprises aluminum and at least one element from the group lanthanum, magnesium, silicon, calcium and sodium. The aluminum oxide exists at least partially as free α-Al.sub.2O.sub.3. Also disclosed is a method for producing a corresponding thermal barrier coating system.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING WITH POROUS BOND COAT LAYER
A gas turbine engine article includes a silicon-containing ceramic substrate and an environmental barrier coating (EBC) system disposed on the substrate. The EBC system includes, from the substrate, a dense bond coat layer, a porous bond coat layer, and a topcoat layer in contact with the porous bond coat layer. The dense bond coat layer and the porous bond coat layer each include a silica matrix and oxygen-scavenging gas-evolution particles dispersed through the silica matrix. The porous bond coat layer includes engineered pores.
