SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROTECTING THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF AN ENGINE STRUT
A system for protecting the structural integrity of an engine strut may include a first monitor, a second monitor, and a controller communicatively coupled to the first monitor and the second monitor. The first monitor may be mounted proximate an engine strut coupling a turbine engine to an airframe of an aircraft. The second monitor may be mounted proximate the first monitor. The first monitor and the second monitor may each be configured to fail upon reaching a triggering temperature indicative of a burn-through in an engine case during operation of the turbine engine. The controller may be configured to automatically reduce an operating parameter of the turbine engine upon a failure of both the first monitor and the second monitor.

The plate may translate in a circumferential direction in response to a thermal expansion of the coil. A system and method for detecting inlet temperature distortion of an engine are described. The method comprises obtaining an outside air temperature from at least one first sensor, obtaining an inlet temperature of the engine from at least one second sensor, determining an inlet temperature distortion based on a difference between the outside air temperature and the inlet temperature, comparing the inlet temperature distortion to a threshold, and issuing an alert when the inlet temperature distortion exceeds the threshold.

The present disclosure is directed to a variable area turbine nozzle. The variable area turbine nozzle includes a first vane segment, a second vane segment arranged with the first vane segment, and a trailing edge segment arranged with the first and second vane segments. The vane also includes a first actuating system for pivoting the second vane segment with respect to the first vane segment and a second actuating system for pivoting the trailing edge with respect to the first and second vane segments.

The heat transfer structure is disposed within the case. The heat transfer structure is configured to conduct heat away from the plurality of electronic components. The heat transfer structure is further configured to regulate a temperature of the electronic components below the predetermined temperature parameter.

A method and system for monitoring a temperature of a gas turbine engine are described. The method comprises obtaining individual sensor readings from functioning temperature sensors of a sensor array, where a number of the functioning temperature sensors is less than a total number of temperature sensors in the sensor array; applying correction factors to the individual sensor readings of the functioning temperature sensors based on deviations of the individual sensor readings from a total average temperature of all the temperature sensors in the array, to obtain corrected individual sensor readings; and determining a corrected total average temperature as a sum of the corrected individual sensor readings divided by the number of functioning temperature sensors.

A high-pressure bypass control system automatically adapts to the load rejection or FCB under any loading situation, avoids drastic changes of unit parameters from loading fluctuations, meets requirements of the load rejection and the FCB.

Active Waveguide Excitation and Compensation
An environmental condition may be measured with a sensor (10) including a wire (20) having an ultrasonic signal transmission characteristic that varies in response to the environmental condition by sensing ultrasonic energy propagated through the wire using multiple types of propagation, and separating an effect of temperature on the wire from an effect of strain on the wire using the sensed ultrasonic energy propagated through the wire using the multiple types of propagation. A positive feedback loop may be used to excite the wire such that strain in the wire is based upon a sensed resonant frequency, while a square wave with a controlled duty cycle may be used to excite the wire at multiple excitation frequencies. A phase matched cone (200, 210) may be used to couple ultrasonic energy between a waveguide wire (202, 212) and a transducer (204, 214).
