CAMSHAFT FOLLOWER MECHANISM
A follower mechanism including an outer cup having a substantially cylindrical side wall, an annular lip portion disposed at a first end of the side wall, and an annular ledge disposed on the side wall, the annular ledge being disposed in a plane that is transverse to a longitudinal center axis of the follower mechanism. An inner cup includes an annular lip extending outwardly therefrom and a pair of shaft apertures, and is disposed in the outer cup so that the lip abuts the annular ledge of the outer cup and is non-rotatably fixed thereto by the annular lip of the outer cup which abuts the lip of the inner cup. A shaft is received in the shaft apertures, and a roller follower is rotatably received on the shaft such that a portion of the roller follower extends axially outwardly beyond the annular lip portion of the outer cup.
SWITCHING TAPPET OR A ROLLER FINGER FOLLOWER FOR COMPRESSION RELEASE BRAKING

Alternatively to a tappet, the system includes a roller finger follower controlling an opening and closing timing of exhaust valves, the roller finger follower has an inner roller follower arm adjacent an outer sliding follower, and a controller that in response to an engine braking request locks the inner roller follower arm with the outer sliding follower to contact a second cam lobe and open the exhaust valve during a compression stroke of the cylinder.
Engine valve lifter having anti-rotation plug
An engine roller lifter for use in a leak-valvetrain of an internal combustion engine includes a body, a roller and an anti-rotation plug. The body includes an outer peripheral surface configured for sliding movement in a bore provided in the engine. The bore is supplied oil by an oil passage communicating therewith. The body defines an opening. The roller bearing is rotatably mounted to the body and is configured for rolling contact with an engine camshaft. The anti-rotation plug is received at the opening and has a plug body including an anti-rotation protrusion that extends radially beyond an outer peripheral surface of the plug body. The anti-rotation plug can be staked into the opening of the body.
CAM PHASER CAMSHAFT COUPLING
A hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser includes a camshaft sprocket having a plurality of teeth configured to engage an endless loop that transmits angular motion from the crankshaft to the hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; a rotor, coupled with the camshaft sprocket to prevent angular movement between the camshaft sprocket and the rotor, that includes one or more vanes extending radially outwardly forming a plurality of fluid chambers; and a housing that selectively changes angular position relative to the rotor and the crankshaft and is configured to be linked with a variable phase camshaft to change the angular position of the variable phase camshaft relative to the crankshaft.
HYBRID VALVE TRAIN SYSTEM
For a given cylinder in the engine having two intake valves and two exhaust valves, one of the intake valves is driven by a bucket tappet, while the other intake valve is actuated via a roller finger follower. Similarly, one of the exhaust valves is driven by a bucket tappet, while the other exhaust valve is actuated via a roller finger follower. The intake valves read inputs form an intake camshaft, and the exhaust valves read inputs from an exhaust camshaft.
Variable valve drive of an internal combustion engine
A variable valve drive of an internal combustion engine is provided that includes at least one gas exchange valve, the valve stroke of said gas exchange valve predefined by cams of a camshaft, and by at least one switchable rocker arm. The switchable rocker arm, having a first lever and a second lever, selectively transmits cam lift to the gas exchange valve. The second lever is selectively coupled to the first lever by a coupling. The coupling is activatable by an elongated activation arm on which one leaf spring is disposed for the coupling of the switchable rocker arm. The elongated activation arm is longitudinally displaceable from a locking position to an unlocking position by a linear actuator. A damper mass is disposed or configured to be capable of oscillating on the elongated activation arm and/or on the leaf spring of the elongated activation arm.
Direct-acting valve lifter of internal combustion engine
A valve lifter with a variable lift mechanism is required to be deployed at a predetermined angle with respect to a cam unit, and the present invention is intended to achieve this requirement with a simple configuration without too much processing such as a fitting of the conventional longitudinal groove and a pin. A cam sliding contact surface of a valve lifter on which a high lift cam and a low lift cam slides is formed to be a smooth inclined surface and a cam slide starting point is lower than a cam slide terminating point, thereby establishing an elevation difference between the cam slide starting point and the cam slide terminating point. As a result, since the high lift cam and the low lift cam always move uphill on the cam sliding contact surface, namely, from the low cam slide starting point toward the high cam terminating point along the slope of the cam sliding contact surface, the valve lifter is not subjected to a force around the reciprocating axis from the cam and therefore, the direction of the valve lifter is maintained constant.
Variable valve gear with braking cams
A variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a cam carrier which is arranged on a camshaft in a manner which prevents relative rotation and allows axial movement between a first axial position and a second axial position and has a first cam and a second cam. The first cam is designed for a normal mode of the internal combustion engine, in which the first cam keeps a first exhaust valve open in the exhaust stroke. The second cam is designed for an engine braking mode of the internal combustion engine, in which the second cam initially keeps the first exhaust valve closed in the compression stroke and/or in the exhaust stroke and opens the first exhaust valve before reaching a top dead center of a piston movement.
Deactivating Valvetrain Assembly
A valvetrain assembly comprising a first body and a second body, wherein the second body comprises a first wall and a second wall. The valvetrain assembly further comprises a first latch pin, wherein the first latch pin is configured to latch the second body to the first body and unlatch the second body from the first body. A portion of the first latch pin is located between the first wall and the second wall. The valvetrain assembly also comprises a movable shaft, wherein the movable shaft is configured to move the first latch pin. The valvetrain assembly comprises an electromagnet, wherein the electromagnet is configured to move the movable shaft.
