Hydraulic lash adjuster
In a lash adjuster used for a valve operating mechanism of an internal combustion engine, there is known a lash adjuster constituted by inserting a cylindrical sleeve into a plunger cap for preventing air from entering a high-pressure chamber located at a lower portion of the lash adjuster. However, in the conventional lash adjuster, since the plunger cap is formed with two side holes which are different in height in the axial direction of the plunger cap, it becomes complicated to regulate the side surface the plunger cap which corresponds to a sliding surface. Therefore, it is problems to be solved by the present invention to provide a lash adjuster in which the side surface of the plunger cap can be easily regulated without disturbing the inflow and outflow of oil and whose machining cost can be kept low. The above problems can be solved by a hydraulic lash adjuster in which two or more cap side holes 27c are provided and all of them are disposed in a plane perpendicular to a shaft center of the body 21.
Valve-actuating lever for reciprocating-piston internal combustion engines
A valve-actuating lever for reciprocating-piston internal combustion engines is proposed, wherein this lever is supported on a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine or a part of this cylinder head, is in active connection with a cam of a camshaft, has an essentially inverted U-shaped cross section, is made from steel sheet metal by a punching, bending, and/or deep-drawing measure, and has, in addition to a support plate (5) for a shaft of a gas-exchange valve or for an intermediate piece, lateral guide cheeks (3, 4). A height of the lateral guide cheeks (3, 4) can be changed with regard to the support plate (5) by an embossing procedure.

The latch assembly is movable between a first configuration and a second configuration. In the first configuration, the latch assembly engages the outer arm such that the outer arm rotates with the inner arm, and in the second configuration, the latch assembly disengages the outer arm such that the outer arm rotates independently from the inner arm.
VARIABLE VALVE LIFT APPARATUS
A variable valve lift apparatus includes an outer body for selectively performing a first lever motion depending on a rotation of a high cam, the outer body further forming an inside space, an inner body disposed in the inside space of the outer body so as to selectively perform a second lever motion depending on a rotation of the high cam by being selectively locked to the outer body, the selective performing of the second lever motion depending on a rotation of a low cam being released from the outer body, and the inner body being configured so that a valve is connected with one end of the inner body, a connecting shaft rotatably connecting the outer body with the inner body, and a lost motion spring wound around the connecting shaft so as to return the outer body after being relatively rotated with respect to the inner body when the outer body is released from the inner body, wherein a roller rolling-contacting with the low cam is disposed at the inner body, and the connecting shaft is disposed between a pivot axis for a lever motion of the inner body and the roller.
Exhaust valve and an engine assembly including the exhaust valve having a pressure relief apparatus
An exhaust valve includes a stem extending to a valve end. The valve end includes a pressure relief apparatus. An engine assembly includes a casing defining a cylinder bore, a combustion chamber and an exhaust passage. The combustion chamber is disposed between the exhaust passage and the cylinder bore. The engine assembly also includes a piston movable in the cylinder bore. The engine assembly further includes an exhaust valve movable between a first position blocking fluid communication through the exhaust passage and a second position allowing fluid communication through the exhaust passage. The exhaust valve includes a pressure relief apparatus configured to allow fluid communication through the exhaust valve from the cylinder bore to the exhaust passage when the exhaust valve is in the first position and a predetermined pressure threshold occurs in the cylinder bore between the exhaust valve and the piston.
VALVE GEAR FOR ENGINE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING ROCKER ARMS
A valve gear for an engine includes a camshaft including a cam, a rocker shaft, and a first rocker arm which swings when pressed by the cam. The valve gear includes a spring, which biases the first rocker arm and a second rocker arm which presses an intake valve or an exhaust valve, in a return direction. The valve gear includes a first pin hole of the first rocker arm, a second pin hole and a third pin hole of the second rocker arm, a first switch pin, a second switch pin, a third switch pin, and a switch which switches between a connected state and a non-connected state of the switch pins. The second rocker arm includes a stopper against which the first rocker arm abuts. When the first rocker arm abuts against the stopper, all of the pin holes are located on the same axis.
Switching rocker arm
A switching rocker arm assembly can include an outer arm having a first outer side arm and a second outer side arm, each of the first and second outer side arms having a high lift lobe contacting surface, and an inner arm disposed between the first and second outer side arms and pivotably secured to the outer arm, the inner arm having a low lift lobe contacting surface and defining a latch bore. A latch assembly can be arranged at least partially within the latch bore of the inner arm. The latch assembly can include a latch pin having an orientation pin receiving recess, a sleeve engaging the latch pin and having an orientation pin opening, and an orientation pin extending through the orientation pin opening into the orientation pin receiving recess. The orientation pin can have a substantially cylindrical first wall and a substantially cylindrical second wall.
Helical torsion valve spring assembly
A helical torsion valve spring assembly includes one or more helical torsion springs mounted within a frame and are held in a statically loaded state so that installation of a valve spring retainer can be easily performed. The entire helical torsion valve spring assembly is installed as a single part onto a cylinder head of an engine valvetrain. The helical torsion springs are mounted around a shaft to accurately locate the helical torsion springs so that the forces acting on the retainer and valve are precisely controlled. The assembly minimizes the size of the retainer, and applies only one bending mode to the helical torsion springs, which provides maximum utilization of the spring material and minimizes coil vibration. The assembly allows spring coils to be strategically packaged in the engine valvetrain to create space in critical areas.
Switching oil gallery de-aeration
A switching oil gallery de-aeration arrangement for a switchable valve arrangement is provided, including a switching control valve that activates or deactivates the switchable valve arrangement. The switching control valve is movable from a first position, in which pressurized hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic lash adjuster fluid gallery flows to a passage on the hydraulic lash adjuster and through a switching hydraulic fluid gallery to a check valve such that pressurized hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic lash adjuster fluid gallery pressurizes the switching hydraulic fluid gallery and is released through the check valve, and a second position, in which pressurized hydraulic fluid having a higher pressure sufficient for carrying out a switching function of the switchable valve arrangement is delivered by the switching hydraulic fluid gallery via the second intersection to the second port.

A variable valve lift system may include a roller finger follower having an end connected with a valve and a roller mounted thereto. A hydraulic lash adjuster supports another end of the roller finger follower and has operating modes which are changed to a high lift mode or a low lift mode according to supplied hydraulic pressure to change a height of the hydraulic lash adjuster.
