The control valve has a valve housing and a spool located in the valve housing. The valve housing has different ports for fluid communication with a source, an advance line, and a retard line. One or more recirculation paths can be established at various times between the valve housing and the spool, depending upon the position of the spool in the valve housing.

High frequency switching variable cam timing phaser
A variable cam timing phaser arrangement is disclosed, comprising: a rotor having at least one vane; a stator co-axially surrounding the rotor, having at least one recess for receiving the at least one vane of the rotor, wherein the at least one vane divides the at least one recess into an first chamber and a second chamber; and a control assembly for regulating hydraulic fluid flow from the first chamber to the second chamber or vice-versa. The control assembly comprises a central on/off piloted valve for allowing or preventing fluid communication between the first and second chambers, and a remotely located solenoid-controlled actuator for controlling the on/off piloted valve. The present disclosure further relates to a method of controlling the timing of a camshaft in an internal combustion engine. The disclosure also relates to an internal combustion engine and a vehicle comprising the disclosed variable cam timing phaser arrangement.
Control valve for cam phaser and method for mounting the control valve
A control valve for a cam phaser of an internal combustion engine, the control valve including a cylindrical housing, including a first operating connection, a second operating connection, a supply connection, and a tank drain connection configured to drain a hydraulic fluid; a control piston device, including a control piston, a supply tube, a first check valve and a second check valve enabling cam torque recirculation, wherein the control piston device is arranged in the housing and axially movable by an actuator, wherein the first check valve is configured with a first disc portion and a second disc portion and the second check valve is configured with a third disc portion and a fourth disc portion and the first check valves and the second check valve are arranged offset from each other by a compression coil spring.
HYBRID PHASER WITH HYDRAULIC LOCK IN AN INTERMEDIATE POSITION
A phaser which has an offset or remote pilot valve added to the hydraulic circuit to manage a hydraulic detent switching function, in order to provide a mid-position lock for cold starts of the engine, either during cranking or prior to complete engine shutdown. The mid-position locking of the phaser positions the cam at an optimum position for cold restarts of the engine.
Hydraulic valve for a cam phaser
A hydraulic valve for a cam phaser, the hydraulic valve comprising: a bushing including a piston that is movable in a bore along a longitudinal direction; a supply connection for feeding a hydraulic fluid; a first operating connection and a second operation connection; and a first tank drain connection and a second tank drain connection configured to drain the hydraulic fluid, wherein a first check valve is associated with the first operating connection and a second check valve is associated with the second operating connection, and the first operating connection and the second operating connection are connectable through at least one of the first check valve and the second check valve alternatively with each other or with the supply connection or with the first tank drain connection or with the second tank drain connection by moving the piston, wherein the hydraulic valve includes five switching positions,
Mechanical Cam Phasing Systems and Methods
A mechanical cam phasing includes a stator, a cradle rotor, a first locking mechanism having a first locking feature and a second locking feature, a cage, and a second locking mechanism rotationally coupled to the cradle rotor and selectively moveable between a locking state and a phasing state. In the locking state, a clearance is provided between the cradle rotor and the cage to allow the cradle rotor to rotate relative to the cage and lock the first locking feature or the second locking feature. In the phasing state, the clearance between the cradle rotor and the cage is reduced to ensure rotational coupling between the cradle rotor and the cage in at least one direction, which displaces the first locking feature or the second locking feature relative to the cradle rotor and enables the cradle rotor to rotate relative to the stator.
