The present invention relates to a three-way catalyst (TWC) for treatment of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines operated with a predominantly stoichiometric air/fuel ratio, so called spark ignited engines.

A composite oxidation catalyst (18, 20) for use in an exhaust system for treating an exhaust gas produced by a vehicular compression ignition internal combustion engine (30) and upstream of a particulate matter filter (44, 50) in the exhaust system comprises a substrate (5) having a total length L and a longitudinal axis and having a substrate surface extending axially between a first substrate end (I) and a second substrate end (O); and three or more catalyst washcoat zones (1, 2, 3; or 1, 2, 3, 4) arranged axially in series on and along the substrate surface, wherein a first catalyst washcoat zone (1) having a length L.sub.1, wherein L.sub.1<L, is defined at one end by the first substrate end (I) and at a second end by a first end (19, 21) of a second catalyst washcoat zone (2) having a length L.sub.2, wherein L.sub.2<L, wherein the first catalyst washcoat zone (1) comprises a first refractory metal oxide support material and two or more platinum group metal components supported thereon comprising both platinum and palladium at a weight ratio of platinum to palladium of ≥1; the second catalyst washcoat zone (2) comprises a second refractory metal oxide support material and one or more platinum group metal components supported thereon; and a third catalyst washcoat zone (3) comprising a third refractory metal oxide support material and one or more platinum group metal components supported thereon is defined at a second end thereof by the second substrate end (O), wherein a total platinum group metal loading in the first catalyst washcoat zone (1) defined in grams of platinum group metal per cubic foot of substrate volume (g/l) (g/ft.sup.3) is greater than a total platinum group metal loading in the second catalyst washcoat zone (2), wherein a total platinum group metal loading in the third catalyst washcoat zone (3) defined in grams of platinum group metal per cubic foot of substrate volume (g/l) (g/ft.sup.3) is less than the total platinum group metal loading in the second catalyst washcoat zone (2) and wherein the first catalyst washcoat zone (1) comprises one or more first alkaline earth metal components supported on the first refractory metal oxide support material.
Combined NOx absorber and SCR catalyst
The present invention is directed to selective catalytic reduction catalysts that combine SCR activity with NOx absorber activity. In particular, the disclosed catalytic article includes a substrate having a first and a second material disposed thereon, wherein the first material includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst composition and the second material includes a nitrogen oxides (NOx) absorber composition, wherein the NOx absorber composition does not substantially oxidize ammonia, and wherein the catalytic article is effective to abate NOx from an engine exhaust gas stream. Emission treatment systems for treating an exhaust gas including a catalytic article of the invention are provided, particularly systems that include an injector adapted for the addition of ammonia to the exhaust gas stream located upstream of the catalytic article.
Three-way catalyst
The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising a carrier substrate of the length L extending between substrate ends a and b and three washcoat zones A, B and C wherein washcoat zone A comprises one or more first platinum group metals and extends starting from substrate end a over a part of the length L, washcoat zone C comprises one or more first platinum group metals and extends starting from substrate end b over a part of the length L, and washcoat zone B comprises the same components as washcoat zone A and in addition, one or more second platinum group metals and extends between washcoat zones A and C, wherein L=L.sub.A+L.sub.B+L.sub.C, wherein L.sub.A is the length of washcoat zone A, L.sub.B is the length of substrate length B and L.sub.C is the length of substrate length C.
Low temperature NOx reduction using H.SUB.2.-SCR for diesel vehicles
Disclosed herein are emission treatment systems, articles, and methods for selectively reducing NOx compounds. The systems include a hydrogen generator, a hydrogen selective catalytic reduction (H.sub.2-SCR) article, and one or more of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and/or a lean NOx trap (LNT) and/or a low temperature NOx adsorber (LTNA). Certain articles may comprise a zone coated substrate and/or a layered coated substrate and/or an intermingled coated substrate of one or more of the H.sub.2-SCR and/or DOC and/or LNT and/or LTNA catalytic compositions.
Exhaust Gas Purification Catalyst
An exhaust gas purification catalyst showing resistance to peeling and high purification performance is provided. The present invention is an exhaust gas purification catalyst including a base material and a catalyst layer disposed on the base material. The catalyst layer includes a catalytic metal, a first metal oxide, and a second metal oxide having a higher heat resistance than that of the first metal oxide. When Dx is an area-based average particle diameter of the first metal oxide determined from an arbitrary cross section of the catalyst layer and Dy is an area-based particle diameter of the second metal oxide 22 measured from the cross section of the catalyst layer, a ratio of the Dy to the Dx (Dy/Dx) is 5 or more, and the Dy is 7 μm or more. In the catalyst layer, pore volume of pores having pore diameters 30 nm or more measured by a nitrogen adsorption method is 0.28 cm.sup.3/g or more.
PALLADIUM DIESEL OXIDATION CATALYST
An oxidation catalyst composite for abatement of exhaust gas emissions from a lean burn engine is provided, the catalyst composite including a carrier substrate having a length, an inlet end and an outlet end, and an oxidation catalyst material coated on the carrier substrate. The oxidation catalyst material can include a first layer and a second layer. The first layer can include a first oxygen storage component that includes ceria and is impregnated with a palladium (Pd) component and a second component including one or more of magnesium (Mg), rhodium (Rh), and platinum (Pt). The second layer can include a refractory metal oxide component impregnated with platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd), wherein the ratio of Pt to Pd is in the range of about 0:10 to about 10:0.
Catalytic washcoat with controlled porosity for NO.SUB.x .abatement
The present disclosure recognizes a correlation between zeolitic surface area (ZSA) of a catalyst composition and its catalytic activity. Particularly, the disclosure provides catalyst articles for diesel NO.sub.x abatement, including a substrate and a washcoat layer containing metal-promoted molecular sieves, wherein the zeolitic surface area (ZSA) of the catalyst article is about 100 m.sup.2/g or greater, the volumetric surface area is about 900 m.sup.2/in.sup.3 or greater, and/or the total zeolitic surface area (tZSA) is about 1200 m.sup.2 or greater. The disclosure further relates to methods for evaluating ZSA, volumetric ZSA, and tZSA, e.g., including the steps of coating a catalyst composition comprising metal-promoted molecular sieves onto a substrate; calcining and aging the catalyst composition; determining the ZSA (or volumetric ZSA or tZSA) thereof; and correlating the ZSA (or volumetric ZSA or tZSA) with catalyst composition NO.sub.x abatement activity to determine whether the catalyst composition is suitable for an intended use.
Exhaust gas purification catalyst
The present disclosure provides an exhaust gas purification catalyst having improved durability, which comprises a substrate and a catalyst coat layer formed on the substrate, the catalyst coat layer having a two-layer structure, wherein the catalyst coat layer includes an upstream portion on an upstream side and a downstream portion on a downstream side in an exhaust gas flow direction, and a part or all of the upstream portion is formed on a part of the downstream portion, wherein the downstream portion contains Rh fine particles, and wherein the Rh fine particles have an average particle size measured by a transmission electron microscope observation of 1.0 nm or more to 2.0 nm or less, and a standard deviation σ of the particle size of 0.8 nm or less.
MONOMETALLIC RHODIUM-CONTAINING FOUR-WAY CONVERSION CATALYSTS FOR GASOLINE ENGINE EMISSIONS TREATMENT SYSTEMS
Catalyzed particulate filters comprise three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic material, which comprises rhodium as the only platinum group metal, that permeates walls of a particulate filter. Such catalyzed particulate filters may be located downstream of close-coupled three-way conversion (TWC) composites in an emission treatment system downstream of a gasoline direct injection engine for treatment of an exhaust stream comprising hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulates.
