Heat exchange systems for engine-powered watercraft and methods of using same

A heat exchange system for use on an engine-powered watercraft includes a liquid cooling system for cooling the engine using a first heat exchanger and a water heating system using a second heat exchanger for heating water. Raw water from an external water source is passed through each heat exchanger. Water used to cool the engine coolant inside the first heat exchanger exits the watercraft. Water heated by the second heat exchanger is passed to either an intake conduit or at least one onboard accessory system for flushing thereof to kill aquatic invasive species. A valve inside the second heat exchanger opens to release heated water when the heated water reaches a temperature of at least 140° F. Heated coolant from the first heat exchanger passes through the second heat exchanger to transfer heat to the water inside the second heat exchanger.

Marine engine flushing and lubricating accessory

An improved flushing system accessory that comprises a connector and a lubricating-fluid vessel. The connector has a threaded first intake port connected to a water supply hose, and a second intake port coupled to a non-vented bottle containing lubricating fluid. The connector further includes a threaded outlet port sized for connection to a marine engine flushing accessory. The connector has an internal chamber to draw fluid from which is divided by a partition wall into a first passageway and a second passageway. The intake and outlet ports are in fluid communication with the interior chamber. Lubricating fluid supplied by the lubricating-fluid vessel, and water supplied by a water supply hose, enter through a first and second intake port, respectively. They then pass through the connector outlet port and into an attached marine engine flushing accessory.

From the cooling water flowing through the cooling water passage, foreign substances having a size that clogs the cooling water passage are removed. The cooling water passage is provided with a filter device which can filter residual foreign substances remaining in the cooling water.

A system for flushing a cooling water pathway of a marine propulsion device with water supplied from a water source includes a water control device and a controller. The water control device is connected to the water source and the cooling water pathway of the marine propulsion device. The controller controls and causes the water control device to supply the water from the water source to the cooling water pathway so as to perform the flushing. The controller obtains propulsion device data including at least one of a pressure of the water, a flow rate of the water and a concentration of salt contained in the water in the cooling water pathway. The controller determines whether or not to stop a supply of the water by the water control device based on the propulsion device data.

Embodiments of outboard motors and related systems and components thereof, as well as arrangements of marine vessels implementing same, as well as related methods of operation, use, assembly, and manufacture, and related improvements, are disclosed herein. In at least some embodiments, the outboard motor includes a cowling system in which at least one divider portion separates an interior region into first and second portion, with the transmission and engine respectively being situated in the first and second portions, respectively. Additionally, in at least some embodiments, the outboard motor includes a water pump system in which a water pump is integrated with the transmission. Further, in at least some embodiments, the outboard motor includes a fuel vaporization suppression feature, or an oil tank feature that allows for desirable oil drainage from the engine of the outboard motor particularly when the outboard motor is in particular (e.g., storage) positions.

A seawater cooling system adapted to mitigate salt crystallization in a seawater cooling loop. The system may include a pump operatively connected to the cooling loop and configured to pump seawater through the cooling loop, a temperature sensor operatively connected to the cooling loop and configured to monitor a temperature of the seawater in the cooling loop, and a controller operatively connected to the temperature sensor and to the pump, the controller configured to issue a warning and to increase a speed of the pump if it is determined that the monitored temperature of the seawater exceeds a predetermined threshold temperature.

An automated flushing system includes a base having a flow inlet, flow outlets and a flow manifold, the system also including solenoid valves and a pressure switch mounted upon the manifold. The flow manifold includes a main flow channel connected to the flow inlet, and auxiliary flow channels interconnecting the main flow channel with respective ones of the flow outlets so as to provide flow communication in parallel to the flow outlets from the main flow channel. Each solenoid valve extends into a respective auxiliary flow channel and is actuatable between an activated status and a deactivated status to allow and block flow communication of liquid through the respective auxiliary flow channels to a flow outlet. The pressure switch in flow communication with the flow inlet is configured to sense that the pressure of liquid entering the flow inlet is above a preset minimum before initiation of automated flushing system operation.
