Lean-Burn Pre-Combustion Chamber

In certain embodiments, a unique method and pre-combustion chamber (PCC) structure may ensure very efficient flame propagation of lean fuel-air mixture in natural gas engines by reducing the amount of fuel admitted to the PCC. A PCC may include an enclosed volume of 1-3% of the main combustion chamber volume, with a spark plug and a fuel passage located opposite one or more PCC discharge nozzles to create a relatively richer fuel-air mixture with relatively lower turbulence in the spark plug region and a relatively leaner fuel-air mixture with relatively high turbulence in the nozzle region, which can be reliably and efficiently ignited, resulting in a high velocity flame jet/torch emerging from the prechamber into the main chamber. The PCC may be threaded with a 22 mm×1.5 or ⅞″-18 thread size, to allow the PCC to be screwed into a cylinder head in place of a spark plug.

Pre-combustion-chamber type gas engine

An object is to improve a trap effect to trap ignition fuel gas supplied to a pre-combustion chamber and reduce an amount of non-combusted ignition fuel gas flowing out of the pre-combustion chamber to suppress a decrease in combustion efficiency. A pre-combustion-chamber type gas engine includes: a pre-combustion chamber Sr disposed on a cylinder head portion 10; a spark plug 20 disposed on an upper part of the pre-combustion chamber Sr; a pre-combustion-chamber gas supply mechanism configured to supply ignition fuel gas “g” to the pre-combustion chamber Sr via gas supply channels for the pre-combustion chamber 22a and 22b with an opening on an upper part of the pre-combustion chamber Sr; and a check valve 24 disposed in the gas supply channel 22b for the pre-combustion chamber. The opening of the gas supply channel 22a for the pre-combustion chamber is disposed on a lower surface of a cover member 16 forming the pre-combustion chamber Sr or on an upper section of a side wall of a pre-combustion-chamber member 14, the opening facing in a tangent direction of a side-wall inner peripheral surface 14a of the pre-combustion-chamber member 14. The ignition fuel gas “g” supplied to the pre-combustion chamber Sr forms a swirl flow s1 which swirls about a longitudinal axis x of the pre-combustion chamber Sr inside the pre-combustion chamber Sr.

Multi-chamber igniter

Air/fuel mixture is received from a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine into an enclosure about a flame kernel initiation gap between a first ignition body and a second ignition body. Air/fuel mixture received into the enclosure is directed into a flame kernel initiation gap. The mixture is then ignited in the flame kernel initiation gap.

Methods and systems for pre-chamber operation during catalyst heating

Methods and systems are provided for operating a pre-chamber to provide ignition to a cylinder during catalyst heating. In one example, a method may include injecting fuel and air into a pre-chamber of an engine cylinder during an expansion stroke of the engine cylinder responsive to a temperature of a catalyst being less than a threshold temperature, and injecting the fuel and the air into the pre-chamber during a compression stroke of the engine cylinder responsive to the temperature of the catalyst being greater than or equal to the threshold temperature. In this way, the pre-chamber may provide robust ignition to the cylinder during a variety of operating conditions.

PRECOMBUSTION CHAMBER GAS ENGINE

A precombustion chamber gas engine includes a main-chamber forming portion forming a main combustion chamber, a precombustion-chamber forming portion forming a precombustion chamber communicating with the main combustion chamber via a plurality of nozzle holes, and an ignition device disposed in the precombustion chamber and having an ignition portion spaced from a main chamber central axis of the main combustion chamber at a predetermined distance. In a plan view, the precombustion chamber has a near-ignition region including the ignition portion and a far-ignition region opposite to the near-ignition region separated by a borderline passing through a precombustion chamber central axis of the precombustion chamber and perpendicular to a straight line passing through the precombustion chamber central axis and the ignition portion. The distance between the precombustion chamber central axis and a precombustion-chamber-side opening end, connected to the precombustion chamber, of a specific far nozzle hole which is at least one nozzle hole in the far-ignition region is shorter or longer than the distance between the precombustion chamber central axis and a precombustion-chamber-side opening end of a specific near nozzle hole which is at least one nozzle hole in the near-ignition region.

PRE-CHAMBER TYPE DIESEL ENGINE

Provided is a pre-chamber type diesel engine wherein the fuel system is not complicated, regardless of whether a regeneration function is provided. An injector is employed, which is able to inject fuel at a given timing by means of an electrical signal from a controller, and when a prescribed amount of particles have been trapped in a particle collection filter the injector carries out an additional fuel injection during the expansion stroke of a piston.

Methods and system for stopping an engine

Systems and methods for stopping and starting a direct injection engine are described. In one example, the air is injected into one or more pre-chambers of engine cylinders to adjust engine pumping torque during an engine stop so that the engine may stop at a crankshaft position that facilitates direct engine starting.
