When it is determined that the initial combustion is unstable, the engine speed is forcibly increased. When the engine speed is forcibly increased, fluidity in the cylinder increases. When the fluidity in the cylinder rises, homogeneity of the homogeneous air-fuel mixture is improved. Therefore, it is possible to enlarge the flame kernel. When the flame kernel is enlarged, the initial flame resulting from the flame kernel is also enlarged. Then, the initial flame becomes easy to involve the closest fuel spray thereby the initial combustion can be stabilized.

When it is determined that the igniting environment is out of the desired range, the variable valve mechanism is controlled so that the swirl ratio is increased. When the swirl ratio becomes high, the discharge spark and the initial flame move largely in the flow direction of the swirl flow SW and approach the closest fuel spray. Therefore, the discharge spark and the initial flame are attracted to the closest fuel spray and the initial flame enlarges by involving the closest fuel spray (middle stage of FIG. 7). Further, the initial flame enlarges further by involving surrounded fuel spray (lower stage of FIG. 7).

An engine includes: ignition plugs which ignite an air-fuel mixture in combustion chambers; a power transmission member which transfers rotary motion of a crankshaft to a valve operation control mechanism for air intake and exhaust valves; and a transmission member housing space having the power transmission member disposed therein. The ignition plugs include first and second ignition plugs for each of the combustion chambers. The first ignition plug is located on a cylinder axis, and the second plug is arranged offset relative to the first ignition plug so as to be away from the transmission member housing space in a widthwise direction of the engine along which the crankshaft extends.

Internal combustion engine with spark plug and prechamber spark plug

The present disclosure relates to an internal combustion engine, comprising: at least one cylinder; two charge-exchange ports per cylinder, a first charge-exchange port being an inlet port, and a second charge-exchange port being an outlet port; and one spark plug and one prechamber spark plug per each cylinder.

ENGINE

An engine includes: a piston including a cavity; a cylinder head configured so as to form a combustion chamber having a pent roof shape; a fuel injection valve configured to inject fuel in a period from a second half of a compression stroke until a first half of an expansion stroke; and a spark plug arranged at a position corresponding to an upper side of the cavity. Injection openings which are arranged in a circumferential direction surrounding a longitudinal axis of the valve and through each of which the fuel is injected in a direction inclined relative to the longitudinal axis by a predetermined angle is formed such that when a height of a ceiling of the combustion chamber at a position corresponding to an edge end portion of the cavity in an injection direction of the injection opening is large, the injection angle of the injection opening is large.

Control device for internal combustion engine

The invention relates to a control device applied to a cylinder injection type of an internal combustion engine (10). The control device control a disperse parameter for changing a degree of a spread of the fuel spray injected from the injector (20) such that the maximum degree of the spread of the fuel spray under a state where an amount of the fuel adhering to the spark generation part (31a) of the spark plug (30) at the ignition timing corresponds to a first amount, is smaller than the maximum degree of the spread of the fuel spray under a state where the amount of the fuel adhering to the spark generation part at the ignition timing corresponds to a second amount smaller than said first amount.

An internal combustion engine comprises a fuel injector 31, a spark plug 16, a piston 14 having a cavity 91, a swirl control device 95, and a control system 70. The cavity is formed so as to change in distance from the fuel injector to a side wall surface of the cavity, in the circumferential direction. The system performs ignition assist control for successively performing injections of main fuel and ignition assist fuel, makes an air-fuel mixture formed by the ignition assist fuel burn by flame propagation by the spark plug, and makes the remaining fuel burn by pre-mix compression self-ignition. The system controls the swirl control device during the ignition assist control so that when the engine load is high, the fuel sprayed heads toward parts of the side wall surface which are short in distances from the fuel injector.

A hydrogen direct injection engine includes a cylinder and a combustion chamber positioned at a center of the cylinder, where an axis of the combustion chamber is approximately identical to an axis of the cylinder. The hydrogen direct injection engine also includes one or more intake valves positioned around the cylinder, one or more exhaust valves positioned around the cylinder, a cylinder head mounted across a top surface of the cylinder, and a fuel injector positioned vertically at the center of the cylinder. The hydrogen direct injection engine further includes a piston disposed within the cylinder, and a spark plug positioned between the one or more intake valves.

Internal combustion engine

Injection of the fuel by the injector 43 creates a gas flow in the combustion chamber. The gas expands in a radial fashion from an axis of a cylinder toward a radial outside of the cylinder, and then flows from the radial outside along the cylinder head bottom face 221 toward the axis of the cylinder. The spark plug 41 has a gap positioned away from the axis of the cylinder toward the radial outside of the cylinder at a predetermined distance, and placed radially inwardly from a position opposite a rim of an opening of the cavity 242. A side electrode extends to be oriented in a direction perpendicular to the flow of the gas along the cylinder head bottom face. The gap has a center positioned near the cylinder head bottom face, and closer to an interior of a combustion chamber than to the cylinder head bottom face.
