The invention relates to a control device applied to a cylinder injection type of an internal combustion engine (10). The control device control a disperse parameter for changing a degree of a spread of the fuel spray injected from the injector (20) such that the maximum degree of the spread of the fuel spray under a state where an amount of the fuel adhering to the spark generation part (31a) of the spark plug (30) at the ignition timing corresponds to a first amount, is smaller than the maximum degree of the spread of the fuel spray under a state where the amount of the fuel adhering to the spark generation part at the ignition timing corresponds to a second amount smaller than said first amount.

ENGINE

An engine includes: a piston including a cavity; a cylinder head configured to form a combustion chamber having a pent roof shape; a fuel injection valve configured to inject fuel from a second half of a compression stroke until a first half of an expansion stroke; and a spark plug arranged at a position corresponding to an upper side of the cavity. Injection openings are arranged in a circumferential direction surrounding a longitudinal axis of the valve. The combustion chamber at a compression top dead center is divided into a plurality of fuel injection regions, located in respective injection directions of the injection openings, by vertical surfaces extending radially from the longitudinal axis through a middle between adjacent injection openings. When a volume of the fuel injection region located in the injection direction of the injection opening is large, an opening area of the injection opening is large.

STRUCTURE OF COMBUSTION CHAMBER FOR DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE

A fuel injection valve is shifted, with respect to the bore center of a cylinder, toward one end of an engine's output shaft. A top surface of a piston has inclined surfaces, and is raised by the inclined surfaces. A cavity is formed by hollowing out portions of the inclined surfaces, and faces the injection axis of the fuel injection valve. In a vertical cross section taken along the plane passing through a particular location in an intake other-side region of a combustion chamber and the location of the fuel injection valve, the distance from an injection tip of the fuel injection valve to the wall surface of the cavity at the particular location is longer than that from the injection tip to the wall surface at a diametrically opposed location to the particular location.

A hydrogen direct injection engine includes a cylinder and a combustion chamber positioned at a center of the cylinder, where an axis of the combustion chamber is approximately identical to an axis of the cylinder. The hydrogen direct injection engine also includes one or more intake valves positioned around the cylinder, one or more exhaust valves positioned around the cylinder, a cylinder head mounted across a top surface of the cylinder, and a fuel injector positioned vertically at the center of the cylinder. The hydrogen direct injection engine further includes a piston disposed within the cylinder, and a spark plug positioned between the one or more intake valves.

The present invention relates to a combustion chamber structure of an engine configured to inject fuel in a predetermined operation range in a period from a second half of a compression stroke until a first half of an expansion stroke to perform ignition after a compression top dead center. The combustion chamber structure includes: a piston including a cavity; a fuel injection valve provided at a middle portion of the piston; and a spark plug provided at a radially outer side of the middle portion of the piston and an upper side of the cavity. The cavity is formed by a curved surface having curvature that becomes larger as the curved surface extends toward the radially outer side. A tangential direction of an edge end portion of the curved surface intersects with a combustion chamber ceiling radially outward of the spark plug.

The internal combustion engine includes: at least one cylinder in which a combustion chamber is formed, the combustion chamber being delimited by side walls of the cylinder and a combustion chamber roof, which is formed by a cylinder head of the cylinder, and a piston that can move in the cylinder; and a spark plug with a longitudinal axis including: a housing with a combustion chamber-facing end face, an insulator disposed in the housing, a center electrode disposed in the insulator, and at least one ground electrode disposed on or in the housing and, together with the center electrode, forms at least one spark gap. The spark plug is mounted in a bore formed in the cylinder head and is designed to ignite a fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber. The spark gap of the spark plug is located outside the combustion chamber.

Control device of gasoline direct-injection engine

A control device of a gasoline direct-injection engine is provided. The control device includes an engine body, an injector, and a controller. Within a high load operating range, the controller causes the injector to perform a pre-injection and a post injection. In the pre-injection, the fuel is injected to cause a fuel concentration within an in-cylinder radially peripheral section to be higher than a fuel concentration within an in-cylinder radially central section at a timing for the fuel to ignite. In the post injection, the fuel is injected to cause the fuel concentration within the radially central section to be higher than the fuel concentration within the radially peripheral section at a timing for the fuel to ignite. The timing for the fuel injected in the post injection to ignite is after an oxidative reaction of the fuel injected in the pre-injection occurs and after a compression top dead center.

Internal combustion engine for gaseous fuel

An internal combustion engine for gaseous fuel includes a cylinder and a piston for reciprocal movement in the cylinder along a reciprocal axis, whereby a combustion chamber is at least partially delimited by the cylinder and the piston. The piston includes a piston crown facing the combustion chamber, a piston crown projection of the piston crown in a direction parallel to the reciprocal axis and onto a piston crown plane extending transversally to the reciprocal axis having a piston crown center point, the piston crown comprising a piston bowl surface defining a piston bowl and a piston rim portion enclosing the piston bowl surface. A piston bowl opening is the intersection between the piston rim portion and the piston bowl surface. The piston bowl opening has an opening center of gravity in the piston crown plane. The opening center of gravity is offset from the piston crown center point.

Dual pre-chamber piston bowl system

In one embodiment, a combustion system for an engine is disclosed. The system includes a cylinder block that defines a cylinder bore and opposing pre-chambers located along a circumference of the cylinder bore. The system also includes a fuel injector located equidistant from the circumference of the cylinder bore that injects fuel in a direction perpendicular to a diameter of the cylinder bore. The system further includes a piston located within the cylinder bore that has a substantially conically shaped crown having fuel direction grooves that direct the fuel from the fuel injector towards the opposing pre-chambers.
