E-charger with hybrid dampening system

An e-charger includes a shaft supported for rotation about an axis. The e-charger also includes a compressor wheel that is attached to the shaft. The e-charger further includes an electric motor configured to drive the shaft and the compressor wheel in rotation. Also, the e-charger includes a housing that houses the electric motor and at least part of the shaft. Moreover, the e-charger includes a dampening system incorporated in the housing and configured to dampen loads transferring through the housing. The dampening system includes at least one solid-state dampener that is resiliently flexible, and the dampening system includes at least one fluid viscous dampener.

FUEL VAPOR FILTER PURGING OF A SUPERCHARGED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE IN INDUCTION MODE

A method is provided for operating an internal combustion engine, which comprises at least one combustion unit, a fresh gas tract for supplying fresh gas to the combustion unit, and a fuel tank system. A fresh gas compressor as well as a differential pressure valve are integrated into the fresh gas tract. The first purge gas line opens into a first section of the fresh gas tract, which is situated downstream from the differential pressure valve as well as upstream from the fresh gas compressor, while the second purge gas line opens into a second section of the fresh gas tract situated downstream from the fresh gas compressor. The differential pressure valve is at least partially closed at least temporarily during an intake mode of the internal combustion engine with fuel vapor filter purging, and purge gas is introduced into the fresh gas tract via the first purge gas line.

FUEL VAPOR FILTER PURGING OF A SUPERCHARGED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE IN INDUCTION MODE

A method is provided for operating an internal combustion engine, which comprises at least one combustion unit, a fresh gas tract for supplying fresh gas to the combustion unit, and a fuel tank system. A fresh gas compressor as well as a differential pressure valve are integrated into the fresh gas tract. The first purge gas line opens into a first section of the fresh gas tract, which is situated downstream from the differential pressure valve as well as upstream from the fresh gas compressor, while the second purge gas line opens into a second section of the fresh gas tract situated downstream from the fresh gas compressor. The air supply system comprises one or more air discharge units (ADUs) for releasing compressed air to an outside of the hull below a waterline of the vessel. The air supply system comprises a plurality of turbocharger(s) for supplying a compressed air flow to the combustion engine of the vessel via a first flow path. The plurality of turbochargers each comprises a turbine configured to be driven by an exhaust gas flow of the combustion engine and a compressor connected to the turbine and comprising an inlet for receiving air and an outlet for providing the compressed air flow to the first flow path. The plurality of turbochargers comprises a first turbocharger and a second turbocharger arranged in series with the compressor of the second turbocharger being downstream of the compressor of the first turbocharger in the first flow path. The air supply system comprises a first sub-path and a second sub-path branching off the first flow path and supplying the sub-flow of air to the ADUs. The first sub-path branches off from the first flow path downstream of the first turbocharger and upstream of the second turbocharger and wherein the second sub-path branches off from the first flow path downstream of both the first turbocharger and the second turbocharger.

A hydrogen fueled powerplant including an internal combustion engine that drives a motor-generator, and has a two-stage turbocharger, for an aircraft. A control system controls the operation of the motor-generator to maintain the engine at a speed selected based on controlling the engine equivalence ratio. The control system controls an afterburner, an intercooler and an aftercooler to maximize powerplant efficiency. The afterburner also adds power to the turbochargers during high-altitude restarts. The turbochargers also include motor-generators that extract excess power from the exhaust.
