10605158 · 2020-03-31 · ·

Methods and systems for providing engine braking for a two stroke diesel engine are described. In one example, a flow through a mechanically driven supercharger is adjusted to provide engine braking for a two stroke diesel engine when engine braking is requested. The level or amount of engine braking may be adjusted via increasing or decreasing flow through the mechanically driven supercharger.

Control device for an internal combustion engine

In a control device for an internal combustion engine, when a target pre/post compressor pressure ratio calculated by a target pre/post compressor pressure ratio calculation part is more than a turbine-limit-time pre/post compressor pressure ratio calculated by a turbine-limit-time pre/post compressor pressure ratio calculation part, an upper limit of the target pre/post compressor pressure ratio is limited by the turbine-limit-time pre/post compressor pressure ratio, and a change rate of the target pre/post compressor pressure ratio is limited by a change rate limit value during a change rate limitation period after upper limit limitation processing starts, thereby preventing the target pre/post compressor pressure ratio from being suddenly fluctuated by a sudden fluctuation in a compressor passage flow rate, and suppressing the occurrence of the over rotation of the turbine and the control hunting.

Wide range active compressor for HP-EGR engine systems

Methods and systems are provided for an engine system configured with a wide range active compressor and high pressure EGR. In one example, a compressor may include an active casing treatment with a slideable sleeve may be adjusted to direct air flow through either a choke slot and surge slot to control compressor efficiency, thereby maintaining EGR flow. In another example, the compressor may comprise a variable inlet device to regulate air flow through the compressor, thereby adjusting compressor efficiency and also maintaining EGR flow.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING A VARIABLE-GEOMETRY COMPRESSOR

A method for controlling a VG mechanism for a compressor employs a predefined VG setpoint map comprising optimum VG setpoints for the VG mechanism based on at least one predefined optimization criterion. The VG mechanism has at least three different setpoints ranging between a minimum flow area setpoint and a maximum flow area setpoint. A location of an operating point of the compressor on its compressor map is determined. Based on the location of the operating point, the VG setpoint map is consulted and an optimum VG setpoint is determined. A predictive scheme can be included for accounting for time lag of the VG mechanism's response.

Slidable sleeve actuation system for a turbocharger compressor

Methods and systems are provided for a slidable sleeve valve actuation system for a turbocharger compressor. In one example, an actuator assembly for a slidable sleeve of a turbocharger compressor may comprise: a fork arm coupled to the slidable sleeve; a rotatable lever arm coupled to the fork arm via a rigid connecting shaft; a connector rod coupled between the lever arm and a rotatable element; and an actuator unit coupled to the rotatable element and attached to an attachment case, the attachment case coupled to the turbocharger compressor. The actuator assembly may be actuated to move the slidable sleeve from one position along a casing treatment to another position along the casing treatment, thereby adjusting the alignment of sleeve slots on the slidable sleeve relative to choke or surge slots on the casing treatment.

In an aspect a method is provided for controlling air flow to an internal combustion engine, comprising: providing a in turbocharger and a compressor that is driven by the turbocharger; driving rotation of a turbine of the turbocharger using exhaust gas from the engine; driving rotation of an impeller of the compressor to generate pressurized air for the engine; sending pressurized air from a pressurized air storage chamber to the internal combustion engine if the pressurized air generated by the impeller is sufficiently low and sending pressurized air from the compressor to the pressurized air storage chamber for storage therein if the pressurized air generated by the impeller is sufficiently high.

COMPRESSOR WITH VARIABLE COMPRESSOR INLET

A compressor with a compressor housing in which a compressor wheel is arranged. The compressor additionally includes a cartridge which is arranged in the compressor housing in the area of a compressor inlet. The cartridge is designed to variably change the cross section of the compressor inlet.

METHOD FOR OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

A method for operating an internal combustion engine is provided, wherein the internal combustion engine has at least one combustion engine and a fresh gas line and wherein a compressor, to which a trim adjuster is assigned, is integrated into the fresh gas line, said trim adjuster by which an edge section of the inlet cross section of a compressor wheel can be covered to a variable extent. In this case, the edge section of the inlet cross section is covered relatively little in a release position of the trim adjuster and covered relatively greatly in a covering position of the trim adjuster. It is provided that the trim adjuster is adjusted between the release position and the covering position, when substantially the same compressor pressure ratio and substantially the same fresh gas mass flow and substantially the same compressor efficiency are achieved in both operating positions.

METHOD OF OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE AND MOTOR VEHICLE

A method of operating a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, wherein the internal combustion engine has at least one combustion engine which is connected by a rotary drive via a transmission and optionally a clutch with powered wheels of the motor vehicle, and further comprises a fresh gas line, and wherein in the fresh gas line, a compressor is integrated, which is associated with a trim controller, by means of which an edge-side portion of the inlet cross section of a compressor impeller of the compressor is coverable to a variable extent. In this case, in a release position of the trim controller, the edge-side portion of the inlet cross section is covered relatively little, preferably the least possible, and in a covering position of the trim controller, is mostly covered, preferably as much as possible.
