INTEGRATED POWER GENERATION AND COMPRESSION TRAIN, AND METHOD
Disclosed herein is an integrated power generation and load driving system, comprising in combination a multi-shaft gas turbine engine comprising a high-pressure turbine mechanically coupled to an air compressor; and a low-pressure turbine, fluidly coupled to but mechanically separated from the high-pressure turbine and mechanically coupled to an output power shaft wherein the output power shaft is connected to a shaft line an electric generator, mechanically coupled to the shaft line and driven into rotation by the gas turbine engine a rotating load, mechanically coupled to the shaft line and driven into rotation by the gas turbine engine a load control arrangement, configured for controlling at least one operating parameter of the rotating load to adapt the operating condition of the rotating load to process requirements from a process, whereof the rotating load forms part, while the low-pressure turbine and the electric generator rotate at a substantially constant speed.
AIRCRAFT ENGINE HAVING TWO RADIALLY OFFSET TURBINES
An aircraft engine, has: a high-pressure spool having a high-pressure turbine drivingly engaged to a high-pressure compressor; and a low-pressure spool having: a first low-pressure turbine downstream of the high-pressure turbine; and a second low-pressure turbine downstream of the first low-pressure turbine, one or more of the first low-pressure turbine and the second low-pressure turbine drivingly engaged to a rotatable load, the first low-pressure turbine and the second low-pressure turbine radially offset from one another relative to a central axis of the aircraft engine.
Centrifugal Gas Compressor
This invention performs the gas pressurization task of a centrifugal compressor gas turbine engine in a new way. In this invention gas compression takes place by using pinwheel-like thrusters 308, 408, 508 and 608 to induce a very high velocity full forced vortex in the gas being compressed. Much higher tip velocities can be achieved because no strength-limited solid centrifugal impeller is required to spin up the gas. Due to the consequent very high vortex velocity a single stage pressure ratio of twenty five to one, or more, may be possible. Because there is no high pressure turbine, the gas pressure delivered to some downstream useful work device is much higher than is the case with conventional gas turbine engines. The invention's compressor requires no major moving parts except for the gas flow. The consequence is that the invention is predicted to have substantially better performance and general characteristics than conventional gas turbine engines.
TURBINE ROTOR WITH LOW OVER-SPEED REQUIREMENTS
A method and a turbine rotor system for reducing over-speed potential of a turbine of a gas turbine engine involve mechanically connecting the turbine to at least two mechanical loads via first and second mechanical drives extending in opposite directions from the turbine.
TURBOSHAFT ENGINE MOUNTABLE IN A REDUCTION GEARBOX
A turboshaft engine for a helicopter, comprising a case inside which a gas generator and a turbine are accommodated, the turbine being mounted on a power shaft that extends along a longitudinal direction. The turboshaft engine further comprises means for removably mounting the power shaft into a reduction gearbox inside which at least one gear of a first reduction stage is accommodated. The means for removably mounting the power shaft include a pinion having a central bore, the shape of which is adapted to that of the power shaft in such a way that the pinion can slide over the power shaft; furthermore, the contour of the pinion is adapted to the shape of the gear of the first stage in such a way that the pinion can form a leading input pinion of the gearbox in said gear once the power shaft has been mounted in the reduction gearbox.
Bearing support for a hot section of a turboshaft engine, and an associated turboshaft engine
A support, for example for a turboshaft engine, or for at least one bearing for a hot section of a turboshaft engine. The support includes at least a central hub incorporating an outer bearing seat for directly receiving the bearing, an annular casing segment around the central hub, and a plurality of radial arms connecting the central hub to the casing segment. The radial arms are inclined in an axial direction and in a tangential direction and are integrated as a single piece with the central hub and with the annular casing segment.
GEARED GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A turboshaft engine includes a high speed spool that connects a high pressure compressor with a high pressure turbine. A low speed spool connects a low pressure compressor with a low pressure turbine. A speed change mechanism includes an input that is in communication with the low spool and a fixed gear ratio. An output turboshaft is in communication with an output of the speed change mechanism.
REVERSE FLOW GAS TURBINE ENGINE HAVING ELECTRIC MACHINE
